My two worst things are Wendys and Waffle House.

Then comes extras like cheesecake (hardly any of that fake crap in the UK. Real cheesecake!) and baked lays.

There's tons of things but I only got up half an hour ago and can't think of any whistling.gif

the spicy KC masterpiece from Lays,

They are damn good. My chip of choice... especially as the Salt and Vinegar chips here just don't taste the same as a bag of Walkers.

Ugh. Gotta agree about the Wendy's. I'm totally turned off of them in the US. Went to one in Georgia and it was terrible. Tried another in SC and it was even worse. That's the end of them for me. lol

Chas' absolute favorite is IHOP for their breakfast. He hasn't made it past the brekkie menu to even try the burgers. laughing.gif

I'm not a huge fan of Red Robin. The burgers aren't THAT much better than other places, and I think they're a bit pricey and for what? Samey burgers? No thanks!

Mainly, Chas can't get over the amount and quality of food that you get here for the (most always) reasonable prices.

It's so sad that 'favorite American food' is interpreted as 'your favorite fast food or near-fast-food chain'! We do more than McDonald's!

What about homemade hamburgers? Steak & corn on the cob on the grill! Biscuits & gravy! Barbecue (of all varieties!) Gulf Shrimp! Clams & lobster fresh from the Sound! All of New Mexican cuisine with green chiles for all. Guacamole! Burritos! Creole!

I don't think it's being interpreted this way. And if it was, i wouldn't mind - I love fast food! blush.gif

fried okra, Sonic shakes, Outbacks, but you need someone to wheel you out of there, Appleby's.

And I think the steaks are better down there too. Hmm maybe it's the cook innocent.gif
britty
I'm addicted to Crystal Light raspberry lemonade. I am also partial to large white rolls from Safeway (just on their own though with no filling).

I love Buffalo Wild Wings. My work has a company lunch once a month where they order food in. one month they got loads of Buffalo Wild Wings in, there were so many that I had to take loads home with me. Where I stay there a few around the city, but they are all in the suburbs and I live downtown, so I dont get a chance to go really.

You know, that was exactly what I was thinking too when I read this. Then I started to think about what does represent US "American," food?

1) Real BBQ - slow cooked ribs, pork roasts, beef brisket, etc.

2) Backyard grilling - hamburgers, steaks, hot dogs, sausages - ball park food

3) Beach side clam/lobster/sea food fests

4) meatloaf?

5) American Fusion

I think American cuisine can be world cuisine because I can find decent examples of just about every world cuisine where I live. You just need to know someone with the recipes and have access to the ingredients, which usually isn't a problem.

I do think it is sad that chain restaurants, fast food, and junk food are what is thought of all the time, but that is expected. The fat, sugar, salt, and oil are flavorful and do taste good, but I'd never consider any of that American cuisine.

hi

I am not in US but would love to have GiorDanos Pizza from Chicago... They are the best in USA

ericdraven
there's so much to choose from in the US with being a northern lad we only have pie shopsand fish and chips, I'd rather go to ihop anyday, or sonic or chicken express (their ice tea is cracking) or red robin or outback steak house or papa john's or red lobster or denny's or pei wei or jack in a box or...........

But the thing I miss the most was the Sushi place we found in irving TX that was yummy.

The U.S. is a little weird in one respect compared to other countries. It's easy to say what makes up French cuisine: you look at the ingredients local to regions of France, you look at the history... but with the U.S., the terrain and the native foods are just so different, plus everyone is from somewhere else originally, so it's not like there's just one American taste or sensibility.

Hahahahaha! So true!!

Ok, so I was obsessed with the Crystal Light drinks for the longest time...I am over it now, but I still have a treat every once in a while.

I have also discovered Splenda Flavor Packets for Coffee- French Vanilla and Hazelnut. They're great!!

My hubby loves P.F. Changs, I love Montgomery Inn here in Cincinnati....Graeter's Ice Cream is also legendary here in Cincy.

One thing you have to watch with foods in the grocery store is the High Fructose Corn Syrup. Have you noticed how Ketchup in the U.S. tastes different from the Ketchup in Canada? Yup, it's way sweeter due to the High Fructose Corn Syrup....that stuff is very very bad for you. Your body has a hard time breaking it down and it causes health problems...hence why Health Canada banned it. It makes sense if you think about it- Canada has public health care so it's in their best interest to ban substances that cause health problems. The U.S. on the other hand has privatized health care. They don't care if something causes health issues...ultimately it makes the insurance companies and hospitals more money!! Awful...

I always grab a few Costco packages of Heinz Ketchup when I am in Canada so I don't have to eat the U.S. Ketchup.

Those splenda packs sound gorgeous!! I must get my OH to hunt some down as I am still in the UK!!! Also agreeing with you on the corn syrup - it is in everything and it is just so not nice wink.gif

Ok - other things I love...

There is a gorgeous Thai restaurant called Papaya Bay in Yucaipa CA which is soo good. I love corn dogs as well - you just don't get those here smile.gif I also love the Hersheys mini cookies, teddy grahams, sleepytime tea, peanut butter m&ms...

Have you noticed how nearly everything mentioned is not good for you?! I am dreading my diet going downhill when I move - esp as I have to fit into my wedding dress still four months after my wedding!!!
Toshtishtash
Oh my god, I really do not know where to start....

IHOP - Everything
Dennys - Everything

Outback steakhouse - Cyclone Pasta

The HUGE buchel of crabs that my family buy on a hot summers afternoon biggrin.gif (With Old Bay seasoning, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm)

Chiradelli brownie mix

The whole Godiva store... I swear I would even eat the counter. LOL

Pretzels with loadsa ketchup

Popcorn (It's just not the same in England)

Buffalo Wings

Oh god, someone get me a wheelbarrow cray5ol.gif I'm gonna be in trouble laughing.gif
