From Vietnam to sunny California to FARGO, North Dakota. Thats the journey my wife has taken. I had a good job opportunity with my employer to transfer to our Fargo division. My wife and I drove across this great land seeing all the wonderful things. Once we arrived in Fargo two things suprised me the most, #1. My wifes love for the winter and extreme cold and #2 the rather large Vietnamese community here in Fargo. She has the choice of two good sized Asian markets to shop for our favorite veggies and fish, don't forget the noodles.
So, here are some facts about North Dakota, I call it the Frontier. The population of the entire state is approx. 700,000. there are only 3 cities with a population of over 20,000. I have yet to see a traffic jam. This is a good place for my wife to learn to drive snow or ice.

We are having the time of our lives, fishing in the Red river is great too.

I want to pass on to everyone else going through your visa journey, keep your chin up, be patient, read read and read some more. Get the facts and in the end you will come out on top.

God bless all of you!!!

Sounds like life is good for you - I'm glad to hear that.

Fargo is nice, I think. Have you watched the movie yet? tongue.gif

Right on good.gif I just took Claudeth to Colorado, she loved the mountains but am not sure what she would think if it was January instead of July, she gets cold when it gets below 80 tongue.gif We also went over Red Mountain pass, Mesa Verde, the four corners and the north rim of the Grand Canyon. She actually got to see one of the white tailed squirrels and I didn't (Boo Hoo biggrin.gif )

This is a wonderful country with many, many things to see good.gif
wally
well now, welcome to the flatlands of ND
I moved here with my kids when we immigrated. We live in Jamestown and go to Fargo for the big shopping excursions. Our little town is only 15,000 and it's quite a change from the city of 300K we came from. You are right about the fishing...we can go from home and have our boat in the Jamestown Reservoir in about 15 min. Hence our nickname...wally---walleye. If I had to have a complaint, it's the freakin wind..it's relentless. And it's so funny about traffic jams...if we're backed up 4 or 5 cars at the local Walmart, my husband's flipping out. Instead of saying 'thank you', are you saying 'you betcha!' yet? Geez, I'm so acclimated to this little town, Fargo seems like a big city to me now.

Thanks for sharing this good.gif and Good Luck for the future....

Great story! Congrats on the new job and move! I had to laugh when I read your post ...in the part where you stated that you wife loves the winter and extreme cold! <HAHA!> My wife is from Thailand, so she also knows EXTREME HOT as your wife does. We now live in a small town in Michigan (8000 people or so) and it is quite quiet. My wife is so happy with all the trees and 'space'...and EAGERLY looking forward to winter too...for the same reasons as your wife...she just wants to be cold! <haha>

Peace to you and continued congrats!

I don't buy it. What month did you arrive? Maybe her version of extreme cold is not the same as North Dakota.

Yes, We caught the tail end of the last winter, so we didnt get the full effect, This year will be different.

Its so flat the wind makes winter storms nasty. Make sure you have winter survival gear in the car, Blanket/sleepingbag, flashlight, some of those 4-6 hour hand warmers, ect. I even put a MRE in the car just incase.
