I sent the application on the 28th of August and it was received on the 30th. Shouldn't i have heard from them by now? Is there any way to check status before I have a number? I do not think they cashed the check yet, and it has been 16 days already, not 10 days, which i thought was about the time it took to hear something.

What is my next step after I hear something. Is there a page at this site that would tell me?

If you have a copy of the cashed check -- I believe they put your case number on the back of the check .... it is posted somewhere in VJ how to find it!!

Do you have online banking where you can see if they have cashed the check? That's what I did. I went to my bank site and saw the copy of the check online. On the back was the case number but I couldn't really make it out. You can't really look up anything until you get that number unfortunately.
