this whole process is taking so long. i got a police clearance certificate in January and my i130 has been approved. will i need a more recent one when i go for the interview?

It depends. In the UK, police clearance is valid for one year. In some places, it's only six months or three months. If you don't get a response here, you might find it better to ask the question in the relevant regional folder.

I dunno about SA but in Finland the police clearance is valid for six months. I got mine in February and thus it's no longer valid. If the police clearance is easy to obtain, I recommend that you get a fresh one. I'll get a new one immidiately after my interview is scheduled. In Finland there's around one month between the scheduling of the interview date and the interview and getting a police clearance takes around one week so it's pretty easy in here . As I said I dunno how things are in SA but I still recommend that you get a new one just in case...

Just read on your police certificate or ask the office who issued it about the validity. Each country has its own rules and definitely you need a valid police certificate.

just in case anyone else was wondering, i emailed the consulate in JHB and they said that my south african police clearance is valid for a year and that if an interview isn't scheduled before then, that i should go ahead and apply for another police clearance. thanks everyone for your replies!

IN india the police clearance certificate (PCC) .. is valid for 6 months so i guess you have to get new one

Why? They just said they found out the South African one is valid for a year.
