after ds-230 is complete how long does it take for the case to reach the cosulate and start sending info to beneficiary...?

The NVC schedules CR1/IR1 visa appointments with the embassies the second week of each month for the following month. You can call them the third week of each month to find out when your interview is. Once they schedule it, both the beneficiary and the petitioner will get packet 4 in the mail which is the interview letter.

Are you certain about this, Diana, that the interview is scheduled by the NVC? I'm asking because I received an email from the US Consulate in Frankfurt some time ago that seems to suggest that they schedule the interview. Or might the procedure be different for different consulates or countries?

Procedure are different depending on the country. I was reading another thread about this. As far as I remember if you have to send to NVC part I & II of the DS-230 than they schedule the interview, otherwise if you only send Part I to the NVC is the consulate that takes care of that. and the waiting time depends on the consulate, there is no general rule.... as far as I know

Yes, I understand that, but there is a difference between the NVC sending out notices and doing the actual scheduling. My (perhaps naive) expectation would be that the consulates do the scheduling (since they know their own workload better than NVC) and then they either send out notices themselves or have them sent out by the NVC (or both).

It depends on the embassy. If you go to the Department of State link and pull up your embassy, it will tell you what documents you need to send to the NVC. Jordan and Colombia for example require additional documents such as the birth, marriage, police certificates and copy of passport bio data page to be sent with the DS-230. Which means the NVC will schedule the interviews. The Frankfurt embassy for example requires you to send the DS-230 and copy of passport bio data page only, which means the NVC will just forward the case and the embassy will make the appointment.
