Hey everybody! I am awake....just been out today running errands. We finally got our co-sponsor's information mailed off and now we are just gonna wait. I don't know if they will make us go to another interview or not.

I was here yesterday, too. But, I was doing some catch up reading because there was a lot of action going on.

We are going to Alexandria tonight. 3 days in Alex , then 3 days in the North Coast. I might check in on you guys from time to time. I haven't even packed. We just found out about 30 minutes ago. Last minute vacation! Yipee!!!!!!

(Oh, and Doodle, we are driving to Alex in our Buick Century. laughing.gif Our car is older than most of the family.)

So we watched 300 last night. Well, I fell asleep about half way through and have to finish it tonight maybe. But can I just say, "WTF?" Did anyone else see it? unsure.gif

We had that movie for about a minute. I got disinterested about 20 minutes into it. We never could finish it, so we scrapped it.

I was scared there for a minute, cause a couple of us have been posting since earlyyyyy. There were posts about teeth and old VJ members and Darija translations and home visits and love words in Arabic.... just to name a few !

Moh downloaded a copy of it with Arabic subtitles. I watched prolly 15 mins of it before falling asleep. It looked like non stop violence to me.

My husband and I started the 300 Sunday night and both fell asleep - woke up at 4 in the morning with the menu scren on laughing.gif We finished it last night. Not my favorite. it IS nonstop violence, for the most part. I thought the computer graphics were cool, but the story line was kind of dull and there wasn't enough to it. I did like it more as the movie went on though.

PS. i don't see any other Tuesday threads either....

Today is just sucking out loud!!!!! Grrrrr!!!!

Couldn't get out of bed. My boy through his breakfast in the floor (eggs and fruit), of which I had forgot to put down the mat around his chair. Grrrr!!!!

Left my gym bag in the kitchen as I was in hurry to get everything and everybody in the car...so not working out at lunch. Grrrrr!!!!!

Got to work and the receptionist is out and makes the rest of us here at work ALOT busier. Grrrrr!!!!!

The house is a complete disaster zone from company this weekend and laundry and toys and I just don't have the energy to go home and do it all. Grrrrr!!!!!!

Anyhooo.....

"Gladiator" is my favorite all time movie so I've been anxious to see "300" to see if it's like that.
moody
Gladiator is also one of my all time favorites. Moh says that 300 is really nothing like Gladiator because Gladiator has an actual story and 300 is basically non stop violence with no real story to it.

Speaking of Gladiator...I'll have to find a pic to add to Jackie's thread. idea9dv.gif

We had a thoroughly exciting day at the office. One of the guys working on the new wiring connections (for our lovely stinky remodled bathrooms) had a transformer blow up in his face. They tossed the whole building out on the lawn for nearly 2 hours in 105 degree heat (no joke), while every ambulance, fire truck, bomb squad, helicopter, and news crew in town came to visit. No word yet on the injured guy, bless his heart. But Jason's did deliver while we were still stuck outside, so the day wasnt a total loss. And if you're in the DFW area, watch the news tonight and you just might get to see me and my friends shaking our butts for the news cameras wink.gif .

I loved this movie! It was the best blood, gore, action movie I have seen in awhile. Although I think it was me and one other person in the movie theater at that time!

Carolyn
Jackie, is your Arabic Dish receiver only useable in Chicago area?

Simo sat me down recently and told me we needed to have a serious talk. Ok, I thought. I must be doing something that is really bugging him (it's usually me that wants to have the "serious talk"). So he tells me we need to get a good TV and either a satellite or cable with some Arabic channels! Soon!

So much for the serious talk! I thought it was going to be some big emotional issue, and he just wants his Arabic TV and futbol.

Any suggestions? I know that Dish Network has an Arabic package, but I don't think they have any Moroccan channels on there (or European soccer, for that matter). Sometimes Simo will find 2M (Moroccan channel) on the computer, but sometimes it is not available. And he is positively addicted to watching Egyptian comedies (many are available for free online).

Ramadan IS coming...

We have the DISH Arabic package. It is good. The Moroccan channel 2M is not available on it....HOWEVER...it is freely broadcast in the US...you just need a satellite receiver and dish to pick it up (and someone to set it up who knows what they are doing -- I am sure one of those local satellite companies that installs Direct and DISH would know). We also purchased from DISH (a la carte) TV5. It is a French station. It plays some French league games and has some great movies as well. My husband was accustomed to watching some French stations so he REALLY likes having it as well.

Twila

ETA: You can get all the necessary equipment for DISH at Radioshack. You'll need someone who knows how to install it. Your husband may know how, though.

Carolyn, we have a friend in Chicago who sent us a pre-programmed dish to LA and we had it installed and it works fine. We also have a DirectTV dish for everything else. For about one or 2 months we had the Arabic pkg on Direct TV, but it sucked and cost too much for how few stations we got. We *do* get 2M on this satellite as well as many other channels.

This type of car is popular in Egypt. Many are old and well worn. It is what many average Egyptian male aspires for.

You must remember that you may see lots and lots of cars blocking up the roads, but the average Egyptian cannot afford to buy
a car....one of the reasons taxi's are so popular.

In your short stay in Egypt, did you see many new cars? I think not, again for the same reason Mr average Egyptian cannot
afford them.

Your husband appears to have built up a stereotype view of America. Has he ever been out of his country, even to another Arab/African
state? That would have been a cultural shock to him as compared with Egypt. So it is not going to be that easy moving to the US with the
views he appears to have built up

It would have been better if you could have spent longer in his country to understand better what his life is about, understand the language
and the way the Egyptian mind works. It is very different from the west blink.gif

what the heck are you talking about? I posted that picture saying that is what *I* personally think of when I think of the Buick Skylark. My husband in no way shape or form is striving to buy that same beat up ratty old car in the picture. Maybe you should spend some time in Egypt. I never ever saw any cars THAT big in Cairo. maybe they exist out in the country or something but my God they'd never even fit in with all the little cars there and it would be much more of a hindrance than a benefit to anyone since there is NO ROOM to park such a monster of a car there.

Yes I saw plenty of new cars in Egypt. No not as many as here of course but enough. I would never personally buy a new car in Cairo since it would just get scratched and dinged to all hell but surely a car a wee bit nicer than the one above would do.

I don't know why you felt the need to get all personal with me. I don't even know you.
