Hi,

You need to contact the Criminal Records Bureau, the CRB. You have to ask them for a full report, and they will isue you it within about 6 weeks. My brother is a teacher, and my sister is a doctor and this is where all their work authorizations come from, so I imagine it is the government service that the Embassy would expect checks to come from also.

Good Luck

You should contact the constabulary in the area where you lived whilst in the UK (e.g Thames Valley, Greater Manchester, etc). If you lived at any time in the London area, you will need to contact the Metropolitan Police, as Lona pointed out above.

You do not need to contact the Criminal Records Bureau directly -- there is anecdotal evidence that direct applications will be returned but this is not necessarily the case. You want what is called a "Subject Access" request. It is not an enhanced disclosure form and not the sort of report that, say, those working with children or other vulnerable people would need.

For more info, see here: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/ukpc.html

It will take 40 days to issue the request. 40 days is computed from the date the police begin to process the application, not from the date you send it off. It costs £10.

Good luck! good.gif

Sorry, but this information is wrong. A CRB check is totally different to a Subject Access Request, which is what US Immigration are asking for. Go with what elmcitymaven posted.

Hi,

Thanks for correcting me! I am a little bit confused now though. If I am a UK citizen and only need a report for myself for my time here, who do I contact? I have lived in a few places in the UK, but surely i don't need to contact every place I lived individually? I thouhgt this was what the CRB centralisation was for, but obviously not wacko.gif !

thanks for your help

Contact the Force which is local to where you currently are. They send it off to Scotland Yard to be done and it will cover you for the whole of the UK so no need to gets lots done. CRB don't just check Police records they check other organisation's records too (mainly for people who want to work with children or vulnerable adults) and US Immigration don't need that level of checking done.

Good luck on your journey.
