Hello,

I am from the UK and have a condition green card, my hisband and I will remove the conditions next year. My question is, my parents recently visited and said they may be interested in retiring here in their later years. Just out of interest, how difficult is it for me to petition for them and how long might it take? Also, I am thinking that I probably cannot petition until I am a citizen, would that be correct? I have my CR-1 through marraige to a US citizen if that makes any different.

Thanks guys!

Not difficult, it is the same process for a spouse, an I-130 is filed for each by you after your first become a citizen through naturalization. Only a US Citizen can file for their biological parents, not in-laws.

I will be filing for both my parents when I become a citizen (late next year or early 2009) I have spoken to a few parents who have gone through the process and it will be almost the same as you did for a CR1/IR1...

Filling the I-130 is the first step... for the parents who are now here it took most of them less than 11 months from start to finish...

Please remember that the cost of medical insurance is very high for those over 65 in the US and they wont be able to get Medicare... here in MA it will cost my parents about $360 per month each...

Which in US terms is an excellent deal, usualy a lot more.

Plus of course its the current price, how much it will be in the future is anybodys guess.

And its not all inclusive.
