There has been sweat. There have been tears - of joy, of pain, of longing and of nut-breaking agony. There has been blood spilt - some in bonding rituals, some in nosebleeds, some in pint bottles lined up next to the urine (long story). But throughout it all, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of love for this thread, the likes of which hasn't been seen on this site since Mr B took a holiday to Disneyland. Happy, happy days. It is a small world, after all.

As I look back now on this Thread of Threads, I am struck by so many memories. When the time comes for me to shuffle off this mortal coil, I know that it won't be my life that I see passing before my eyes. It will be this thread. (Modesty prevents me from assuming that the same will be experienced by everyone who has been touched by The Biggest Poll EVER, but, nevertheless, I would not be surprised if that were so.) This thread is like a cousin to me - one that maybe isn't quite as smart as the others, maybe drools too much and one that buttonholes you at get-togethers at Christmas to talk about Star Wars. But a member of the family, nonetheless. And the bond I feel towards the participants here - well, there aren't words for that. Though 'ambivalence' comes close.

'Can you feel the love tonight' sang Elton John. About animals. And yet they still gave him a knighthood. Strange. But, anyway, to answer his bestial call - yes, Elton, I do feel the love. And another 210 people feel it too. No longer strangers in the wild ride we call Life - we are united. We are friends, arm in arm, each stride synchronised in that way made popular by the 60s TV musical group The Monkees in their opening credits. We are - yes - cousins, drool notwithstanding. It's a beautiful thing.

Where have we been? It doesn't matter. Where are we going? Who can tell? But as long as this thread continues, we can be certain of one thing. God's in his heaven, all's right with the world.

Or, the boss is at lunch, I've got an hour to kill. Whatever.
