Good morning. Here's coffee. I had to get up at 5:45am to print off my boarding passes (transferring planes in Baltimore) so I could get a good seat. Liz, don't forget to do yours.

Yes, we missed being on the same flight by a few hours. sad.gif I fly out at 6:05am ohmy.gif and catch a connecting flight out of Baltimore at 9am. Liz's flight out of Baltimore is around 12:30, I think. My daughter is picking me up. We're going shopping in Buffalo then out to dinner at the Cheesecake Factory before we cross the border. Fun fun fun! kicking.gif

Because my flight leaves so early we've booked a room at the airport this evening. We're going to out for dinner also (Ruth's Chris Steak House). So.... I guess I'd better go pack. laughing.gif See you in Ontario!

Oh, btw, Liz.... I checked the weather. It's going to be in the 60's all week. Click to view attachment Plus it's going to rain. Which will be a nice change from constant sunshine, believe it or not.

Yes, that's right! I really really hope it's open at 5:00am. But I'm pretty sure it's not. sad.gif On the bright side, I may not want a slice of pepperoni pizza at 5:00am. Maybe there's one in Baltimore. It'll be lunchtime for me by the time I get there. laughing.gif

Wow air conditioning and a cell phone! woot woot!

Supposed to be hot here today, surprise! It's kind of funny, we have moved to this really sunny and warm place and I am not really a 'sitting out in the sun' person and I don't really go out when it's too hot smile.gif (but I still like it).

I also have vitiligo, which makes for interesting skin coloring, I am even getting a lovely irregular tan from sitting in the shade on the patio.

oh, and about the air conditioning...

I've had it on for 2 WHOLE DAYS (set to 50 degrees)
Turned it off yesterday out of frustration b/c after all that time, the temp in the house was still 78 degrees

The fan was blowing the whole time but it didn't make a bit of difference..

That means there's something wrong, right?

It does. We had this same problem a little over a week ago, don't know if you have the same type of setup but - fan was on, so it appeared to be 'working' but no cold air.

So the aircon guy comes over and opens up the unit in the wall, turns out the radiator thing is frozen as there was no filter and therefore dirt had built up on the radiator thing and it just froze.

He came over at 10, by 12 the thing was defrosted and cleaned and he put in a filter (there wasn't one). He used my hairdryer to start it thawing.

So if you do have a panel thing on the wall, it would be worth it to take it off and make sure it's clean in there.
*Len*
Yipeeeee kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Turns out we did get the stimulus rebate, which we were not expecting. One of our SSNs ends in 70 and the other in something else. SOOOOOOOOOOO I wonder if when time comes we would get another exact amount for the other SSN? Or that's that? unsure.gif

I took the panel off when it got turned on the other day, changed the filter, vacummed cuz it was disgusting.. and from then all we got was air..

So we just got back from grocery shopping at Albertson's.

They have these specials there that some marketing person dreamt up. The buy 2 get a discount thing. So if you buy two packages, of say peanuts, they are 2 for $5, but if you just buy one it's like $3.49.

So marketing person thinks oh - she will buy 2!! No marketing person, she won't buy any because she doesn't want to buy it for $3.49!!

Silly. tongue_ss.gif

Just ate some cut up watermelon I bought - it was really good.

One other weird thing here, well I don't know if this is in ALL of the United States or just the Albertson's on the corner, but they put non- food items like bubble bath in with say fruit. In Calgary if you buy something like bubble bath, they always put a it in a small bag before putting it in the big bag.

Mind you they also put my bottle of ginger ale in with a loaf of bread - so it probably is just them laughing.gif

But I'm surprised that you aren't getting the discount on just one item. I asked them about that when I first moved down here because I don't want two (or 10) of anything. They told me that the discount still applies. Unless they've changed it or it was a special sale or something? unsure.gif

So.... anyway. I am here in Ontario. Had a lovely meal at Ruth's Chris Steak House the night before I left. HATED getting up at 4:00am. But it would have been 3:00am if we hadn't stayed at the airport so I guess I shouldn't be grumpy about it. Baltimore was pouring down and COLD. It was sunny and warm in Buffalo. Didn't even need a sweater.

Today we are going to my daughter's house for Mother's Day. Looking forward to seeing my son! Daughter and future son-in-law picked me up yesterday so I've seen her. laughing.gif We went shopping in Buffalo and then out to the Cheesecake Factory. First time I've ever eaten there. I was very impressed. No problems at the border. The agent got an evil grin on his face, then started laughing when future SIL told him they had been to pick up the MIL. They got the same reaction from the American agent going in, too. Anyway, we all had a good laugh and a good chat about being nice to your MIL, then he waved us on through. No questions about goods being brought in or anything. It was good to be home. smile.gif

Happy Mother's Day everyone! rose.gif

Happy Mother's day all.

So krikit I take it the pizza place doesn't open at 5, oh well maybe it will be open when you come back!

So yes, it is Mother's day, my Son isn't too keen on 'marketing' holidays, that's not what he actually calls them, but if it involves a Hallmark card he figures it is just some made up thing to sell products.

But anyhoo - we have officially run out of Nabob coffee, just drinking it now. I will try a few brands we can get at the store (krikit I forgot which one you told me about) - if we don't like them we can order MJB from Amazon. good.gif

Oh and yes, I think the 10 for things, you still get the discount but these are like their weekly 'specials'.

And they have these request sheets all over the store, so I requested vegemite and MJB coffee, will see if they order it!
Kathryn41
You should be able to get MJB coffee - we used to get that at the PX at Fort Gillam and I have seen it in our local Kroegers. I wasn't too fussy about it - it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, however, at Costco we discovered whole bean Seattle Mountain Columbian coffee and gave it a try. We are converts - it is wonderful coffee! Clean, mild, coffee-tasting coffee with no bitterness or oiliness even when brewed on the strong setting:-). Also, while it is expensive, the Dunkin Donuts' brand of coffee is available here in most grocery stores and it is very good as well. I used to drink Nabob in Canada - find Maxwell House and Folgers too bitter and oily for my taste.

No, the pizza place was closed. sad.gif In fact, everything but McDonald's was closed. So, obviously, that had a lineup the length of the terminal. Stupid place. Finally found a bottle of water in the bookstore and waited until I got to Baltimore to get a Starbucks. Still didn't feel like eating, though. But at least Baltimore has a great selection of places to get food. Orlando, not so much.

The coffee I buy from Publix or Albertsons is Starbucks Medium House Blend. I mix the decaf and the regular together so I'm not a jumpy bunch of nerves. laughing.gif

Just came back from a nice brisk walk because it's a nice brisk sort of day. I wore my fleecies and a windbreaker so that should give you an idea of what I mean by brisk. It's funny how I step right back into being fit and healthy here, yet it seems to be such a burden to do that in Florida. I don't know why that is. sad.gif Could be the heat and/or the lack of a destination in my neighbourhood.

I stopped at the Horton's and had a coffee and a cranberry blueberry bran muffin. It was so good. Then I went to the bank machine and withdrew money from my American bank and deposited it into my Canadian bank. I love the banking in Canada. Try and do THAT in the States without having them F it up. mad.gif

Then I walked through the local mall.... went into Zellers, exchanged my old Optimum card at Shoppers for a new one, then picked up some specialty rice in Dominion that I can't get in the US.

All in all a great day, so far! good.gif Now I must get ready to go to my daughter's house. Talk to you soon!
*Marilyn*
I usually buy Maxwell house for the hubby.. their is this kind he likes that he says doesn't taste bitter.. it is Maxwell house but I can't think of the exact name... I think it is Maxwell House Slow Roast...
