OK, it's not that bad. laughing.gif I've been doing all sorts of paperwork (long PDF documents that were originally sent as graphic images so I can't easily convert them) and my cold (it probably is a mild case of the flu) has me a bit fatigued but I'm still going to get it done. Good morning good people. I am sitting here drinking my tea trying to wake up and get ready. I am going to give myself half an hour. Here's a cup of tea for you too.

I will be in Denver in time to see this sunset today. I hope everyone has a wonderful week. Stay safe, good luck, and congratulations. (Just in case I miss anything. tongue_ss.gif)

Bring in the Clownssss there ought to beee clownsss - thanks for that crickey! huh.gif

Only rock n roll but I like it, the song on the radio at the moment. I was on a long flight once, Zurich to Singapore (all up I think we travelled about 24 hours) - and listening to music supplied by the airline and on a loop, of course, and I remember hearing that song over and over - I think I liked it the first 30 times or so. Anyway, I can now actually listen to it.

I also remember getting off the plane in Karachi and there were armed military personnel on the tarmac and at the doors of the airport. This seemed appalling at the time - but the last time I was in Spokane they had an armed security guard at the grocery store.

Good to see you back IR5!

Anyhoo - good morning!

On another note we bought a pet carrier for our cat yesterday....it's huge.

It's like the xl size (our cat is not that big btw). Just wanted to be able to fit her bed in there and some food and water and maybe the travel size disposable litter box. It's not that it's too long or too wide, but it's quite high.

Anyway we put her bed in there yesterday and she went in a few times for a nap - so that's good.

What's the go-to site for Canadian immigration, guys? (For those who have considered or have gone the other way.)

I'm writing an article about a Canadian couple in Ottawa (it's about the HIV ban the U.S. has and how one partner can't come into the U.S. ever again because he's HIV pos) and I'm trying to get a good grasp of how Canadian immigration works. (I knew it was a whole different animal the minute I heard about the "landing" process. WTF?)

So anyway... any help would be appreciated.

Also, any descriptions of Highgate Springs checkpoint, if you've been there.

Thanks! good.gif

I believe roadtocanada.com is a Canadian equivalent of VJ.

Oh and it is voting day here in Alberta, they have changed the voting place from the school to a church, which I personally think is a grand idea - shouldn't have a bunch of strangers traipsing through an elementary school (I wrote a letter to the editor to that effect the last time we voted).

Will the Conservatives win! Stay Tuned!

Hi crikey! I heard it's cold and snowy in Denver! Well I hope you enjoy yourself today, shopping in a new place sounds like fun. How are your accomodations?

Brrrrrrr. Once we'd broken through the cloud cover and I could finally see the ground snow, I knew I was in trouble. (I was able to differentiate the clouds from the ground because there were some evergreen tops poking through when I looked down. To distinguish clouds from the ground after landing, I looked for the middle section of the trees.) After staring at the snow-covered roads and the tops of the evergreens for a while, I turned to the lady sitting next to me and said "I don't think I'm gonna like this."

Speaking of the lady next to me... I sat beside a very nice older couple who were returning to Phoenix after their son's wedding to a Florida gal. It had been a two day party and they'd been out late the night before, neither of them were feeling well, and they promptly fell asleep. Unfortunately, the husband kept unleashing this toxic gas.... to the point where I had my hand over my nose and mouth trying not to breathe or throw up. Honestly, I could barely see through the haze. A little while later they both woke up. The wife asked him how he was feeling and he said "I'm experiencing a little intestinal discomfort." blink.gif

Our accommodations are lovely. I hear there's a pool and a hot tub here somewhere. I might try and find that this evening. We passed by the workout room but I looked the other way. innocent.gif Breffrus was good. There's a lovely view of the (snow-covered) mountains from here. The car rental guy warned me not to drive there cause of the recent storm.... said the roads were all snow-covered. (Really?)

Speaking of car rental guys.... he tried to upsell me on the rental. Kept trying to scare me about the "treacherous" weather and road conditions and how I really needed something much more suitable (i.e. expensive). Finally had to shut him down by telling him I'm from Canada and was used to this kind of weather. That was the last I heard on the topic. laughing.gif

Okay.... off to shop till I drop. Have a great day everybody!

Gooooooooooooooooooood morning from rainy Seattle. Weekend with Sarah was a blast, and now I am back @ work, LATE. Daaah. Forgot to turn on alarm and woke up at circa 7:20 (usually the time I am already waiting for the freaking bus mad.gif), Argh. I hate being late. But hey, apparently in this office everyone but my boss is recurrently either late or sick, so I am still a model of efficiency LMAO.

OK, now pass that java.

Just did our Canadian taxes, so that's all good. The IRS graciously sent me the 1040 package, I put it in a box of papers.

Canada doesn't mind when you file, if you don't owe them money, guess the IRS won't either. Just seems like a lot of thinking right now, will leave it until after we move.

Oh and because you all are sitting on the edge of your seats, with Alberta voting yesterday - yes, PC Premier Ed Stelmach had a landslide victory. We had a new polling station this year. When I arrived around 5:30-ish the line was 3 deep, around 50 people. Normally they have 4 tables with people looking names up and telling people which table to get their ballot from.

In this new location they had 1 woman, standing, holding a thick pile of papers having to flip through to try and find everyone - finally, totally exasperated she calls out for one of the polling people to come and help her. She did keep apologizing.

What I thought was really unusual was that I actually heard two people talking politics.

PC's - 72 seats
Liberal - 9
NDP - 2
Wildrose and Green - 0

This is our MLA - Wayne Cao - or Caoboy as they apparently call him:

I like Alberta.

Yes, Ricardo Retardo believed buying off the rack meant something. How gauche. He also believed in tying a tie with a four-in-hand knot. How amusing. Gentlemen such as the esteemed Mr. Brody do not buy off the rack, a bespoke suit is required. Mumsie is planning on acquiring a bespoke Brioni very shortly. Did I tell you that he kept grabbing his crotch and telling the padre, "I'm huge," during the ceremony. He didn't have a best man, he kept the ring down his shorts. His flashed each of the maids of honour and told them that he only had one-eye for them. It gets worse.... laughing.gif
