Bonjour All,
My unenviable task is to find a decent place to live "downtown".
Not right in the heart of those extremely tall buildings, but nearby.
Close to the Lake (fresh water sea) and near amenities so I don't lose the rest of the mind I am rather fond of.
We drove around yesterday to look at a few places and lo-and-behold you can actually find reasonably priced apartments in terrific areas.
We decided to rent for this next year until I have a chance to be here a while and see if this is indeed a good city to live in.
As it is, the Arctic cold has my vote already cast...but alas, a year...will it kill me?
Made an attempt to go and see the Chinese New Year's Parade yesterday.
With windchills of -30 F and an air temp of -2 F it took a minute to freeze any exposed skin.
Scrapped that idea, although DimSum at The Phoenix was delectable. Yummmm...
So with the temp being a balmy 10 F or so today, I am venturing forth to do my own hunting...just awaiting some calls/emails back and maybe it will work out today.
Last week I drove right downtown, where people keep saying they fear, and completely enjoyed myself.
The city is so old that each building is fascinating, the people kind and helpful with directions, etc.
Plus I know a secret FREE parking area and walked to city hall in 20 minutes to get our marriage certificate.
What incredible architecture inside there!
WOW!
I will take photos next time.
I stood and spoke with a senior security/info dude for a while in there and got tons of info about what is going on in the city. I then went to Millennium park and saw where there is skating and an eclectic ice painting/sculpture thingie going on. He was quite welcoming to a Cannuck. Said he loved the time he had visited Vancouver.
I hope all of you are having a great day!
Enjoy your new conquest Emancipation.
