Does anyone remember when they would have the book thing in elementary school - can't remember the name of the company that was selling the books.

Anyway you would take the catalogue home and choose books and get the money from the parents then take back your order form and a couple of weeks later the books would arrive.

I LOVED that whole process and the books, it was like the regal catalogue of the kids book world.

Some books just arrived from Amazon which made me think of it smile.gif

They never had that book thing at my school. But they sure did have it at my kids' schools. And I hated it! laughing.gif

I'm an aquarius..

what does that mean?

lol flames. Actually once I found out Liz is an aquarian I figured out the site I was using was pretty lame - does this seem like you Liz? (different site)

Aquarians basically possess strong and attractive personalities. They fall into two principle types: one shy, sensitive, gentle and patient; the other exuberant, lively and exhibitionist, sometimes hiding the considerable depths of their character under a cloak of frivolity. Both types are strong willed and forceful in their different ways and have strong convictions, though as they seek truth above all things, they are usually honest enough to change their opinions, however firmly held, if evidence comes to light which persuades them that they have been mistaken. They have a breadth of vision that brings diverse factors into a whole, and can see both sides of an argument without shilly-shallying as to which side to take. Consequently they are unprejudiced and tolerant of other points of view. This is because they can see the validity of the argument, even if they do not accept it themselves. They obey the Quaker exhortation to "Be open to truth, from whatever source it comes," and are prepared to learn from everyone.

Well...this does sound like my Joel..the parts that are bolded. Wow. smile.gif

QUOTE(trailmix @ Jan 11 2008, 03:46 PM) *
Well there is this about Aquarius, my other Sister is one - she thinks it's pretty accurate (she says she can only find her halloween socks - but she did remove the bells off them)

Firstly, you can't tell an Aquarian anything - they already know! In fact, they are the know-alls of the zodiac. They are original, inventive and very smart. They are very peculiar in the way they dress. Wearing footy(football) socks with a suit could be quite normal! They are nearly always late arriving anywhere because time means nothing. The telephone is their lifeline so they would rather ring their next-door neighbour than fraternise over the fence. They are so friendly even the dog down the street will find its way to the Aquarian house...and stay.

Being patient with people, make them good teachers, and are always willing to learn something new. But are they willing to go out and earn a living? Some are, many are not. These people can be extremely eccentric in the way they dress or the way they live. They make a point of being 'different' and they can usually feel very unsettled and uneasy if made to conform, even outwardly. Their restless, skeptical minds mean that they need an alternate kind of lifestyle which stretches them mentally.

My husband wears those white socks with EVERYTHING! Black suits...heck I believe he would have worn them with his tux when we got married. laughing.gif Seriously though, he does have coloured socks...I bought some for him and he does wear them - if I ask him to. smile.gif

Oh I remember those fabulous book order thingies! We still do Scholastic Book orders in school today. Teachers and staff can also get books through Books Are Fun. This guy brings a boatload of books to the school, places them in the lounge, and we can actually flip through them and order what we like. I love it! Our daughter is always bringing home book orders too and we also have (twice a school year) the Book Fair (fundraising). So, we have lots of books floating around at home. smile.gif

You might laugh, but I actually still have one of those little paperbacks from way back in the 70s.

Yaaaay! Thanks for the coffee, Carla! Your trip sounds like fun! Good thing you'll be coming to Florida after my brother-in-law has left. It always snows here whenever he visits. He and my sister live in England so he thinks weather in the 60's is just fine. We've got pictures of my husband, my sister and I all bundled up in sweaters and jackets, and my BIL is wading in the sea with his shorts and t-shirt. ohmy.gif The temperature here has dropped drastically overnight, after a lovely few weeks of temps in the 80's. Forcast high for today is 66. My sister and BIL arrive on Friday. laughing.gif

I had always told him I don't want real diamonds because I was scared I would lose them. But these ones are different. So last week my mom finds out that her bone marrow transplant may not have "taken" and we would have to wait for a set of results to confirm it.

She gets a call from her doctors today stating that December's test results are back and that the ratio of donor cells to her cells regressed even further.

Mild panic ensues.

15 minutes later Mom calls. The doctor read the test wrong -- the ratio is actually 2 to 1 (donor to recipient), instead of 1 to 2 -- because they reversed the order on the test printout.

Mild positive hysteria ensues.

10 minutes later I call to make sure the doctor is really sure she read it wrong. In the middle of that call the doctor calls.

Mild panic ensues again.

5 minutes later my mom calls back. The doctor called to tell mom that she ran the test results by the head of the transplant team to make sure she was right that she read the results wrong the first time. He confirms that the ratio is 2:1 and the planned bone marrow biopsy is now on hold until further notice.

Mild positive hysteria ensues again.

My head hurts. I need a stiff drink.

You can get the jeweller to reset the stone to this new type..... when your husband goes to buy the replacement earring. whistling.gif

Actually it's funny, this time I was kind of philosophical about losing the earring, it was kind of like - well there goes another earring laughing.gif

So it's a balmy 8-10 degrees here in cowtown, we are having a chinook and they are warning about snow tonight on some channels and on others, clear and chilly tomorrow. It does not matter since I'm not really leaving the house much until Spring rose.gif

Mild positive hysteria ensues again.

My head hurts. I need a stiff drink.

Wow. What a ride, Cassie. No wonder your head hurts. Congratulations to you and your Mom! (As a side note... I registered as a bone marrow donor years ago but have never received a call. I think that's a good thing. unsure.gif )

My brother and I both registered while we were in university (mid-90s) on the unrelated bone marrow registry. He got a phone call in the late fall (2007)-- at first he thought something had gone wrong with Mom's transplant that had just taken place, until they explained that he was one of four possible donors for someone. I need to ask him if anything will be happening with that, I think he had to go have some blood taken again and they would get back in touch with him.
