Krikit, Thanks smile.gif . You are funny, there's a pile of boxes and junk flying out of her room helpsmilie.gif *trying to keep my eyes closed*

She's going to Trent, in Peterborough for Anthropolgy. It's about a 2 hour drive to Kingston.
I will take you up on that offer when I've had some more sleep. smile.gif

Awww, Trent's lovely. She'll love it there.

And for those who are wondering how my previous post could possibly be taken as funny (lol), I PM'd Tinker telling her (among other things) that a good reality check when you're feeling sad is to remember the times when your kids just about drove you crazy. good.gif laughing.gif

yeah....piles of laundry (how can one girl have so many T-shirts) down the hall, but that's alright, she has lots of time to do it. She's driving me crazy now wacko.gif

I haven't been to Peterborough in years. With working so much I didn't even get to go to her Orientation. I have time now, so I'll be driving HER crazy for a few weeks anyway. devil.gif I'll take her back her pink doillies....

I know I must be giving my mother the same kind of feeling when she sees me walking out of the house with a box of books and CDs.

"Oh, what's in there?"

"Books and CDs that I'm selling so that I can move."

The look on her face was almost priceless. rolleyes.gif

I think that is a great idea, Karen. I am already involved in chat rooms on Tuesdays and Sundays (ok, and Wednesdays, hehehe) but can manage pretty well any other time.

Make it in the morning or sometime when I'm not stuck at work behind the counter.

Now I'm going to dream of pink doilies now, hehe. laughing.gif

Maybe a Saturday morning? That's the only morning, other than Sunday I suppose, that works for me. Evenings are ok...between 8 and 9 EST. Any other ideas? Times? biggrin.gif

I think that's a great idea! Mind you, finding a chat time will be a bit like herding cats. (Liz, have you got a herding-cats-smiley? happy.gif )

I'm on here most mornings and Thursday evenings. Usually not Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, though. How are Thursday evenings at 8:00pm for everyone?

Tinker.... don't forget your daughter's pink doilies for shruiken. We can throw them at (insert VJ member name here).

Oh gosh. That's right. Timezones. blush.gif Well, I'm on EST (actually, EDT since it's summer). hmmm. Problem #2.... Tonight is an exception (forgot it was Thursday) and I won't be online. blush.gif laughing.gif

Next best thing.... we can always check who's online when we log on and see if anyone wants to chat? OR.... Maybe we can set up a chat schedule. Let me put some more thought into that. Karen, would you like to open a thread since it's your idea?

Sorry to go OT in this OT thread tongue_ss.gif but seeing the earlier post on mold wanted me to add my two cents. For those who have been following, my wife is pregnant and we got emergency AP a few weeks back so she could go to her brother's funeral. She'd been feeling sick/ not eating/drinking and we dismissed it as morning sickness coupled with being in a basement apartment with poor circulation. She hadn't been gaining any weight either.

Anyway, she stayed with her parents for a week and was able to eat and drink and put on six pounds. Within a few hours of her being back at home, she felt sick again and lost three pounds this past week. We're convinced it's mold. We told our landlord about this a few weeks ago and he said to keep the windows shut and a dehumidifier/fans on constantly. That's hard to do, considering my wife is in there all day. dry.gif Our lease expires at the end of October but we don't want to wait that long for her to be stuck in there. The plan is for her to go to Canada this weekend and stay until we find a place and can move, hopefully in a week or two. This will be good for my wife's health and will help her mom, because she's had it rough since her brother's passing.

Any thoughts, considering my landlord doesn't claim anything is amiss in the apartment?
Krikit
Oh dear. It sure does sound like it's your apartment that's causing the problems. It's a good idea for your wife to be out of there. I don't understand your landlord's logic in keeping the windows shut, though. It's far better to have fresh air than not. In the meantime.... perhaps a portable ion unit would help to clean the air? Definitely keep the dehumidifier going at all times. You may want to check with the ministry of housing (or whatever it may be called in the US) with regard to your options. All the best.

Have it tested.. then with that proof I'm sure you can get out of your lease for health reasons.. or a note from a Dr.

We looked at an apartment that had been a smoking apt. I am asthmatic. they had made some renovations and said that getting out of a lease for health reasons is a perfectly acceptable reason to get out early. The landlord seemed to imply that if i ran into any problems health wise that they would let us out of the lease. Is there anything in the wording of your lease implying that? I'd also check with your local rental board, see what your rights are.. mold is NOT to be messed with!

Absolutely - and I too am confused about the closed windows, fans on and dehumidifier suggestion. None of these things will get rid of the mold, none of them will fix the problem and having the windows closed is a terrible idea!

I also didn't realize you were actually living in the basement.

misa
Would an ionic air filter help with mold? I know it won't get rid of it but will it make it better for his wife while they're still living there?
jg_am
We have a filter. We can't really run the de humidifer because there's basically two rooms. Well, the kitchen opens up to the living room, so it's a lot of ground to cover and then there's the bedroom. We also have a private entrance, but if it gets too hot out we need to leave that shut. That helps keep the place dry too. I'll have to double check the lease about getting out of it early. Another thought is to see if our landlord has any other apartments and then maybe we can get out that way.

Thursday night at work, we start smelling something odd. Since I work in downtown Vancouver, I thought it was a couple of kids who had been gettin' into the wacky tobacky, if you know what I mean. wink.gif Then it gets stronger until we're all gagging - then one of the 1-hour photo lab technicians comes over into my department and tells me that a skunk got trapped in one of the air vents and complained in the only way possible.

Luckily it managed to get out, but jeez it reeked. sleep.gif
