Hi everyone!
My spouse and I will be able to file the I-751 in about two months. We were married in January 2004 in a private civil ceremony in Finland and lived there, then I came back to the US in Sept '05 to get a job to be able to have the affidavit of support approved. He got his visa through the US embassy in Finland, then he came on the immigrant visa to interview on 12/31/05 (his official move date), and after flying back and forth several times to interview while wrapping up his life in Finland, started his job in May of 2006. Our relationship is 100% genuine.
Now comes time to assemble all the evidence of our relationship to submit with the I-751. I really don't want to hire an attorney, and am wondering if this list cuts it, or if you have suggestions to improve it.
- tax return for 2006 (my 2005 doesn't list him since he wasn't living here during that year and didn't have a SSN)
- 2007-2008 FAFSA (I will start professional school this fall and listed his income info under "spouse")
- life insurance policies listing each other as beneficiaries
- rent lease agreement naming both of us as tenants. (Our first year's only named me; the current one names both.)
- joint checking account statements, and perhaps cancelled checks for rent, etc. written by both of us
- plane itineraries and ticket stubs from various trips, including international travel
- joint electric bill (I JUST had this changed and added his name). Other utilities do not allow two names on account and are in my name.
- photos from various family functions (showing him with our family) and travels
- affidavits from my mom and dad, a co-worker of mine, a college friend who has known him since we were dating
- receipts from activities we have done together, like going to a language class
The other utilities are in my name. His cell phone is in my name and I'm still covered under my family's plan. We each get paid into our own respective checking accounts then "pool" our money into the joint account, which pays for utilities, rent, food, and the credit card in my name (he is an authorized user). We do not own a car since we live in the middle of a large city. I have health insurance through my work and he his; we are not listed on each other's.
I would consider adding, say, postcards that his family and others sent to both of us, and other bills/bank statements that may only have my name or his name but show the same address, and an affidavit from his sister who lives in Finland but can write in English. We could also show some documents related to living together in Finland before his immigration to the US. Would any/all of these be needed or recommended?
Thanks for your help!
