It does, however, support Brian & Kathy's stats, which is showing approvals to be up to weeks sooner than the VJ predicted timeline. So yay for that!
Question now is, when should I start obsessively refreshing my USCIS portfolio page? The 1st seems like a nice round number, but I wonder if I can resist until the 2nd week in January?

that raises a point I've been wondering about, re VJ's stats - does anyone have any idea how much data is taken into account when the estimated dates are worked out? it seems a bit silly to use ALL of it - the longer the site's in existence, the more information there'll be, but the less relevant the earlier part of it will be... and certainly for many recent approvees, the date's been off by a couple of weeks or more

Start a new thread (haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!). Or, ask Cap'n Ewok. I mentioned earlier that my VJ timeline now says that there is not enough data to estimate my approval date; perhaps this means that there are "too few" June filers from the TSC left. That's a good sign. Historically, though, and as I've reported here, my VJ approval date has been bouncing around faster than Speedy Gonzalez on a caffeine high. In lieu of an answer from a Moderator, is there a statistician on this forum or another who could comment?

Good question. I've always assumed there to be a floating window, but now that you bring it up, I don't think I've ever read anything on exactly how it's done.
For awhile, right after the rate increase in fact, the estimated adjudication date meant almost nothing. The system was so backlogged that it was almost a cruel joke. Now it's starting to get more accurate than it was, although it's still only slightly more accurate than a Magic 8 Ball.

With the holidays coming up, processing could either slow down because of the Immigration Bastards taking vacations, or there could be a push to clear as many applications from the deck as possible before Gnu Year's (due to quotas, or whatever). There really is no telling. Maybe call the Disinformation line once or twice, get past the infernal screeners, and simply ask the ImmigOff WHERE your file is -- in the file room, or in the Division -- and if in the latter, where (someone's workstation, a transit station, whatever). Pleasantly ask the ImmigOff if he can send a friendly e-mail of inquiry down to the floor. (Unless you get a nice one, they'll say NO, but you should try.)
On the basis of my experience yesterday, maybe asking "where" the file is (and helpfully prompting them with some possible places) is more valuable than the usual "why" the file isn't processed. You should also add that a number of files submitted after yours have been approved already, and the Case Online flatly says "We process files in the order we receive them."

Your circumspection and charity are boundless, Mox, and I hate you for it (KIDDING!). One phone call, perhaps in early January, shouldn't do any harm. Just keep checking the Online Status as often or as little as you care to; it's still a free country, excepting the usurous USCIS fees. And, should you get your NOA2 today, you can state that it was a "test file" that was used to train new employees. No one here could gainsay you, eh, wot, si man. :)

Position acknowledged. However, my opinion will remain unchanged even if the unnice/unfriendly/nasty word may not again appear here. Note, too, that you guys filed 4 days after me, and you already happily have your K-1 visa in hand (183 days). Yes they more or less process it in the order received. The speed also depends on how many checks each petition has to go through cuz some of them can get approved in 15 mins when nothing is missing and everything is ok and some might be stuck in security checks for weeks if you happen to be unlucky and have a similar name with someone that raises a flag. Also depends on how they take the batches off the pile and when they take the batch if u are on top or on the bottom....lotsa things

It might take forever for you to get your appointment, and they could simply parrot the same scanty information that you already know. It will be interesting to hear from those who have been through this step.

I still believe the majority of USCIS workers are just plain trying to get through the day and pay the bills the best they can. They are no nicer or nastier than your average homo sapiens, although as I said in my post, the government is not very good about determining who should work in customer service and who should not.
The nasty ones are always going to stir up more passion and anger than the nice ones. In fact, if you notice when someone posts a "I talked to a nice lady who said..." the followup discussion is always focused on the information provided. But the posts that say "I talked to the rudest man..." always focus on how rude the CS people are, how they're toying with people's lives, etc etc. As I see it, they just can't win. And I'm sure they have *tons* of stories about the rude petitioners who call and demand answers they simply don't have, threaten to call their congressman, etc etc. It can't be easy to be one of these customer service people, and I can see where someone working within that broken system could become jaded very fast.

I still believe the majority of USCIS workers are just plain trying to get through the day and pay the bills the best they can. They are no nicer or nastier than your average homo sapiens, although as I said in my post, the government is not very good about determining who should work in customer service and who should not.
The nasty ones are always going to stir up more passion and anger than the nice ones. Not all untrue, but if we re-read what that nice ImmigOff told me yesterday, he all but came right out and said "Don't rock the boat -- don't anger them by asking them anything -- my request on your behalf, even in your delayed circumstances, could have the opposite effect from what is desired." The more that I mull this over, the more disquieting it is. If this reflects the "organizational culture" at the Center, it's more than just the system that's broken, si man?

And thank god for that. If they were processed stricly in order, your RFE would hold up everyone behind you.
They are, however, processed in as close to "in order" as humanly possible. There are exceptions (e.g. military expedites, Cubans) and there have been some unexplainable early approvals (minions of Cthulhu is my current working theory) but for the most part it's done in a pretty fair series/parallel system.
As to why some people seem to wait weeks or months longer...I don't know. They are the exception that proves the rule, although I know that explanation is of no comfort to those stuck in the system with no explanation.

I got security check AP at NVC....thankfully in the words of the guy at DOS....."oh man thats the quickest admin process file I've ever seen" was only in AP friday afternoon to Monday morning!!!!
Unless one of us infiltrates the ranks of USCIS I guess we'll never truely know what goes on!
