"Why, thank you, Dear," he responded, flatteredly. Thinking about how everything is relative, be happy that romance and chivalry are all that are dead in Scotland. In Ecuador (and Peru, and Mexico, and parts of Colombia), many men are "machos," and their wives' lives are a living hell. I met two couple-friends of my fiancee's down there in Ecuador; one husband spent our ENTIRE DINNER soliloquizing on how awful, ugly, worthless, and undesirable his wife was... and she was sitting RIGHT THERE! The other husband applies a complete double standard (the Macho standard) of behavior in his marriage. I really wanted to throttle both guys and tell them how lucky they were to have such sweet, lovely wives, but that's the culture down there. My fiancee says that no Ecuadoriana over age 30 will put up with such behavior, which is a large reason that she and her girlfriends want to marry Norteamericanos.

I kid her by telling her about my housework (aargh, urgh, orgh) on Sundays. I tell her, "After the second load of laundry is put away, I can resume being a Macho."

Ok, well i just got off the USCIS misinformation line with a guy who was very nice at least. He said according to his locater system, my case had transited to an adjucator on approx NOV 28th. he said once they get it they are SUPPOSED to finish with it in 30 days. he said they give them that much time since they will get 100 to 150 cases at a time. He said give it 2 more weeks. it was luck of the draw if your case was on top of the piles or on bottom.

taken with a grain of salt....

Mox, you have risen to hero and crashed to goat in the space of two posts. I would like, accordingly, to see a goat (a Horned Highlands ONLY, and reconfirm the correctness of the breed!) with a parrot custard (shaken, not stirred) atop its head. okay now that's made me really angry. I have done part time voluntary work in a womens shelter here in glasgow. I've seen the effect of drunken, drugged up or just plain abusive partners.

There is no excuse for treating women as second class citizens. Your fiance is lucky to have a caring man as yourself. I'm sure you will have a long and happy future together.

A Russian parable: For as long as he could remember, the ox was yoked and walked out to the field every day by the farmer. One day the farmer came to the ox and said "the czar has set you free. You must leave." The government gave the ox his own yoke, some land, and some seed. The ox never wanted to plow again, so he destroyed the yoke. Then he was hungry, so he ate the seed. As the winter set in, he sold his land to buy some hay. One day the farmer came across the ox, who was cold and starving. He said "I can let you work for food, but I cannot pay you." So the ox went back to his former master (who was called "boss" now) and spent the remainder of his life pulling the plow and eating the farmer's hay.

My lot in life is to provide bunnies with pancakes on their heads. I fear I might suffer the ox's misfortune were I to shed this yoke, yet wind up where I started in the first place.

Husband #2 refuses to help at all with housework, and, should his lovely wife dare take a night out with her girlfriends, he lets fly with the accusations: "Where have you been? You've been cheating on me!"

At a party at my fiancee's crib, he got drunker than a skunk, and he had to be carried out by both arms. I had tried very hard to show him that one could perform even one little household task (I grabbed a broom, used it, then exclaimed "I am still a Macho!" but he was too pixilated to notice. My fiancee reports that nothing has changed, damn it.

Even my future in-laws are in that mode. Dad-in-law-to-be insists on a full, freshly cooked meal thrice daily -- leftovers not permitted. For myself, I'd just be happy if someone else opened some cans for me.

You are very sweet, Debz, and you make me glad to be stuck in visa limbo!

Received hard copy NOA2 yesterday..... CSC put the wrong damn Consulate on it.... totally different country! I swear! Called them today they said for me to fax a letter to their "emergency number" (now that IS funny). So I did...... waiting again.

Also called NVC cuz I was freaking out that they might have already rec'd my petition and forwarded it to Ghana instead of Nigeria (What was I thinking??? lol) but anyway... they said not to worry because they don't go by the NOA2 on where to send it, they send it to the country of finace' residence..... novel idea! Thank goodness!

This process is just entirely too stressful!

TBoneTX
Land sakes, Verleen... a touch, with website updated! Obviously the result of my same-day call to an ImmigOff who actually cared. The ones in Nov. & Oct. didn't, because all I got then was lies, stonewalling, excuses, and "why are you calling us when you KNOW that we don't give a crap."

Now, maybe we will see whether there's any true action or whether it goes on the bottom of someone's stack of 100-150 applications. Wouldn't it be consistent with my (our) entire experience if, after all this time, they see the need for an RFE?

The only solution is to begin drinking immediately and heavily; "anaesthesia by beer," I once heard it called. But, I don't drink, so that idea sucks.

Thought for the Day: In April, do anaesthesiologists await the arrival of the Ether Bunny? If he doesn't show up, will the Pancake Bunny? (Mox?)

God I needed that! Thanks mox!

Our case seems to be one of those that they pick at random to go over with a fine tooth comb. K1's before and after us all approved but ours sits on the desk of an examiner at CSC. Apparently just came back from "outside investigation agency" (FBI?). Maybe all this is due to my security clearance? Waiting sucks but it is what it is.
