we have just received our "interview package" and my fiancee has to fill out the DS 156 form. There is a question on that form that asks if my fiancee plans to work in the US. We plan to get married with in a week of her entering the US and she is not going to work during that week, but as she is going to be living here a lifetime i think that it is fair to assume that she will be working in the US. How do people think that we should answer this question.
Mark yes and write: WITH WORK AUTHORIZATION, EMPLOYER UNKNOWN

With respect to the others who have replied, you should definitely write "no" or "no intention to work." This is a trick question, just like the one that asks if the fiancee plans to attend school in US. They are trying to get evidence that the marriage is fraudulent, or that your fiancee wants to come to US not to marry you, but merely to attend school or get a job. Write "no" and your fiancee can still get work authorization later, like any other permanent resident.
Good luck!

I would write down a statement that most clearly identifies your intentions. If you have no plans currently. put that. If you do plan to seek employment, put that.

Simple ! Just tell the truth. No my hubby is extremely rich and I never intend to work ever!
Come on! COs aren't dummys.
Answer is Yes! But no immediate plans to do so or something like that.
DS forms are general and used for all different types of non immigrant visas such as working visas, tourist etc..
Just tell it like it is.
I can see if a person was doing a tourist visa answered Yes may be in fot some problems tho!

Just read the guides folks, they are here for a reason. Most of us wrote exactly what the guide says and got approved. This is NO trick question, and saying you plan to work it actually good, if you think about it, since it means that there are less chances you'll become a burden for the government.
I answered yes to working and studying and the interviewer even chatted on about it, complimenting me on my goals.
I agree, it's no trick question. My fiance and I read the guides and copied what it had. Of course my fiance intends to work. The CO also asked my fiance if he intends to work or go to school. He said, he hopes to do both. Anyway he was approved for the visa.
I say put what ever you intend to do.

Yes. They know that your new husband or wife will need to work. it takes 2 to raise a family today. Just explain clearly.

geocolorado,
How this question is answered is of no importance for the K visas.
KNL's suggestion is good although "WITH WORK AUTHORIZATION" is extraneous and unnecessary - 'employer unknown' (or 'to be determined') is more than adequate.
