I wanted to send a bathroom set (towels, shower curtain, rugs) and bedroom set (bed in a bag, pillows, etc) to my mother-in-law in Nigeria- but when looked at some quotes ...the prices were extremely high.....UPS was like close to $500...can you believe that?? I mean, if it took a month to get there...I would be ok w/ that....if the price was reasonable. Does anyone have suggestion's or idea's or recommendation's???? I was thinking everything would be under 20lbs. Any advice is greatly appreciated rose.gif

Hi, you know maybe you can send the items piece by piece. I too wanted to send a bundle of stuff to my fiance, but decided to divide the things up to send. It can be quite expensive to send them all in one bunch. Otherwise, if you choose to send the items by boat which will take close to a month, I think it will be a bit cheaper. I don't know the boat price. Did you ask them?

Try going to the post office and sending it international express mail. It is trackable too. It took 10 days for my husband to get his binder international express mail. You have other options also at USPS.

If I was shipping many items, I would send them by boat. It's much cheaper, though it takes longer. Who ever is receiving the items by boat has to pay customs when the things arrive. Keep that in mind, or at least they do in Ghana.

thank you very much....I greatly appreciate it. I looked at the post office via internet afew days ago prior to this topic, but it really was not too informative....and the website did not even have Nigeria listed as one of the international countries... I will go there and inquire on rates. I did look at having it shipped by boat...but it would go to Lagos...and I need it to go to go to Anambra State (hours away). My mother in law just moved into a new flat...but just took few things w/ her....so I want to surprise her w/ some items....unfortunately my husband was telling me that it would probably cost a kidney and a heart to ship....thanks again everybody:)

I use Fedex. They have a "saver" rate that gets there a few days later but costs less. I tried using the Post Office and they DID track it to Nigeria. But it NEVER got to my fiance. Someone else in Nigeria is wearing the SIX shirts I sent for his mom and 5 sisters. It costs more to send Fedex, but I'm always assured that the package ACTUALLY gets to my fiance.

you should try sending the package thru a shipping company, like the ones that ship cars and/or cargo to Nigeria. they have a way of getting small packages there, and i think it's about 10lbs for about $50. You will have to call someone in Nigeria to go and pick it up from the shippers agent though. Goodluck.

I used the US Post Office for one shipment too. He did get the package, but the US Postal Service online said it was never delivered to him. He had to pay alot to get it.

How do you find these shipping companies?

Seem like I read in a previous post, the best way to ship there is through DHL. I'm getting ready to ship a package as well and plan to try DHL.
