I am a K1 visa holder, residing as a legal alien in the USA, and currently awaiting my AOS and EAD. I would like to apply for advance parole (AP) so that I have the freedom to visit Canada as I wish until I get my green card.

I have heard that when you apply for AP, your AOS processing times becomes delayed further (??). Is this true? Has anyone experienced this or any other disadvantages to applying for the AP??

Thanks in advance, .. any input would be greatly appreciated before I fork out the new $305 fee.

Considering that you are nearly 2 mos. into your AOS application, you might find that, if all goes well, by sending off your AP application now or in the near future, your AOS and AP could quite possibly be approved at or about the same time, therefore not realizing much benefit of a $305 fee payment.

Can someone please comment on the OP's statement that applying for AP delays AOS? I just applied for AP/EAD because I am stuck in namecheck. I don't want that to delay my AOS further!!

I don't really see why it would delay the AOS process. Sometimes AP/EAD are even getting processed at different locations.

Actually there is some sort of linkage. There are reports that an RFE on one will stop processing on the others, though I do not know the entire story.

Where did the OP hear that applying for AP will delay your AOS???

I have never seen any evidence that applying for AP or EAD after AOS is filed causes delays on AOS.... the only evidence for delays come from getting a RFE on AOS, that can cause delays on your EAD and AP...

OP here.

One of my best friends went thru the K1/AOS/EAD process back in 2003 and he applied for an AP to go back to Canada for family reasons. Apparently, this caused a further delay in the processing of his AOS. I don't know the details ... am waiting to hear back from him via email. Will post when I do. I thought it was strange too ... because I had not heard of this anywhere else (ie: visajourney).
