I would be interested in knowing what IRS forms other Americans have been using while declaring from overseas...

The 1040 as usual with foreign income converted to USD. And then the 2555 to exclude foreign income up to 82,000 USD. There are some requirements to be able to exclude foreign income - the main one is having lived outside the US for at least 330 days of the tax year.

Thank you. That's what I had understood was what should be done, but am always happy to get as much confirmation as possible before DOING all the paperwork.

No problem. www.irs.gov is surprisingly helpful, and also calling the IRS is shockingly helpful. It's easy to get through to a real person who will help with your questions in details.
