Is the envelope open, or just damaged???? if it is open you will need to return it to the Embassy and get it resealed.... if it has just a small amount of damaged and the documents inside cant be removed the it should be ok to take as is....

no one has opened it , but the sides of the envelope has come torn and looks as if it is opened

You can take it back to the embassy if you can to be resealed if not then just explain that is how it arrived to the POE officer....

just now i have sent an email to the consulate , let me see what they are gonna reply.

are there any chances at the POE JFK they donot accept me into US and deport me back and is it such a serious offense?

Agnar, you should probably go on Monday the 30th to the Embassy and have it resealed. Better safe than sorry. If the envelope looks opened they may refuse entry to USA at the POE.

Never heard of anyone getting refused entry for having a damaged brown envelope... now if you has opened it and removed the contents and things were missing that may be a diffrent storry....

I would try not to worry and wait to hear from the embassy....

In our case the corner was cut off at the consulate before they put the documents in it so you could just see the corner of all the documents inside it, some other consulates may do the same.

today morning i have called up the chennai consulate and explained them that the brown envelope was delivered in a damaged condition and they instructed me to resend it to the consulate as soon as possible by submitting it at the local VFS office and wait for a week for a new brown envelope.

yes even i was thinking the envelope has to be replaced
now tht u confirmed it!
i also think u need to pay fee for the resealing of this envelope ?
u should also make it a point to the embassey tht the courier service was responsible for all this !

i also feel why should common people suffer for mistakes of courier services
u must add the voice if they charge u extra for no fault of yours , then do get it sealed from the embassey n make it a point later to add your voice to it , even though u mentioned it in covering letter .

Someone else on this forum had to have it resealed too, they took it in person to the Consulate and there was no charge to reseal it.

You sent it in via courier so I'm praying they will get it back to you before your flight! yes.gif
