Full Version: I-864 using a joint sponsor?

My husband will be applying for PR in the US soon. We both live in Canada now (I am a USC) and I don't work so I can not sponsor. If I get a joint sponsor, does she have to meet the required income for just 1 person or for 2 (her as well as my husband)?

Also, is it better to get a joint sponsor or to try to find a job that is willing to hire my husband? Would just proof of them hiring him be enough for sponsorship? Or should we just stick with using a joint sponsor?

Thanks,
Tammy

You will need a joint sponsor. Just a job offer is not enough. The joint sponsor needs to have enough income and/or assets for their household plus the immigrant. For example, if the joint sponsor had a spouse plus a dependent child, their household number would be 4.
