I have a few questions that I hope somebody can help me with, I was wondering if anyone knows the process of how I can add my husbands name to the title to my home and car and bank account? I own my home and car so I don't have any lien or mortgage on them they are both paid in full. I have read that he would have to be here to sign papers but he can't be since he lives in Kuwait and he is waiting to get the K3 Visa. I really want to have this done soon so I really need your help on figuring this thing out and I hope someone here knows how to do this and can let me know!!

The reason why I'm doing this is so when he goes for his interview he can show we own things together here in the U.S.A. The more proof of our love and marriage the better I think. I don't want them to have any excuse to deny him or ask for more proof, I want my husband here as soon as possible so I'm not willing to take any chances that he will get denied.

I am not sure but he might have to have a SS# for you to put him on it. It is hard to add your husband to accounts w/o it.

I have read some banks will do it and others wont, but I'm also wondering on the title to my home and cars....I owe nothing on them, they are all paid for in full so there should be no reason they would need a social security number for him since I don't owe the banks anything for them, I just want to add his name to the titles.

Can't you just send the necessary paperwork to him for signing and then he can return the paperwork to you through the mail?

I was thinking that too, it just seems like alot of hassle I was just hoping for an easier way, dealing with that and also this visa process is really making me go crazy!!

I was thinking you may have to see a lawyer to add him to the title of your house. It is a lawyer that does the title or deed documents here in Mississippi and files it in the records office. Not sure about how it is done in your state. For the car you can go down to your local DMV or Dept of Revenue and get a application for title. Again, I am not sure of the requirements for you state, but you can add his name on the application, sent it to him to sign. It usually cost around 10 dollars to change a title. It will probably be pretty easy since you own your cars free and clear. I may not have been much help. Good luck with everything.

Thanks for taking some time out to reply to my post, I will go down to the DMV and see what I need to do about my cars and I will talk to my lawyer about the house.

I'm pretty sure that you are going to need to have a Power of Attorney (POA) for your husband to transfer title from your name solely to both of you. I'm assuming that you are the sole owner of the property. You should only have to do a deed for this since there is no mortgage.

When I bought my current house, I put it in both of our names and had to have a POA. The attorney drafted the document and I had to send it DSL to my husband in Morocco. He executed it and had it notarized and send the originals back to me by DSL. I'm pretty sure that this is that standard practice in any state to convey title. Once you have POA you can sign the document for your SO. Then the deed is recorded at the Register of Deeds in your county and the property is legally yours and your husbands.

I am a notary and have notarized car titles before. I'm pretty sure that any notary is going to require your husband to be present, however, with the POA, you might be able to sign in his abscence.

If you are going to go to an attorney to have the POA drafted, request specifically to have the power to sign financial document for him. There are different kinds of POAs and you want to make sure that you send your husband the one that best suits your needs.
