Hi! I was married to my Ugandan husband in Uganda, and we had a marriage certificate given to us by the church. I sent it to the visa center with the rest of my husband's info (birth cert., police records, etc.).
Now they are telling us they want our marriage certificate! HELP! They said to get one from the Ugandan govt., but my husband checked and said he is being told that the church certificate (our original) that is the official document. He is being told by officials that there is no other way to get one.
Now what should we do? Will I need to go back to Uganda, and get married again, and would the visa center accept that marriage certificate?
Does anyone know how to get a government copy of our marriage certificate in Uganda? Thanks, Emily

MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
Available. Copies of marriage records are obtainable from the District Commissioner of the District in which the marriage took place or from the Government Agent, Kampala. This does not apply to the majority of marriages between Ugandans that are performed according to customary tribal law and for which no records exist. For such marriages, certificates are obtainable from the village chief.
