Hi to all,

Please I just want to know the maximum waiting to receive the SSN for the first time.

I'm really desperate because in the Job interviews the employeers don't want to go to the next step when I said that I don't have SSN yet.

I applied for the first time for a SSN on June 22, 2007. I still waiting for my card or number. The letter I have from Social Security Administration show that "this may take up to four weeks" and I have now more than that.

I know that they must verify the authenticity of my documents but I have several friends that applied with the same documents as me (EAD) and they recieved they SSN very fast (1-2 weeks).

I went to several Social Security offices and they told me that not even the number was issued.

Now I don't know if they have any problem with my case or if I will finally get my social security at least "some day"

Thanks.

It took a couple weeks for my wife to get SSN in the mail.

The same thing happened to me (they couldn't find me in SAVE) when I first went in with my new EAD, but 2 days later they did find me.

Your best bet is to go back to the office in person with all your documents again (and the original letter saying "up to 4 weeks") and have them check to see if you're in the system yet. Good luck!

Just two days actually. I applied on July 16th and was told I wasn't in there and that they would have to send off for manual verification. They gave me the same standard letter that you got stating it could take "up to 4 weeks". Then on July 19th I got a letter in the mail (dated July 18th) stating I would get my SSN in 2 weeks. Now I don't know for sure, but I am assuming that someone rechecked my information in the system before sending off for manual verification and I was in there. Either the first person didn't check properly or I just wasn't in there yet.

The woman did tell me on the 16th that if I didn't receive anything in 4 weeks to come back into the original office and they would check again. So your best bet is to go back to the SSA office with the letter they gave you and all your ID again and have them recheck.
