We are on the waiting list & want to start getting things ready for the interview...

Do we need to take original docs of (marriage certificate, birth certificates, divorce decrees etc) or are copies sufficient???? These things are costing so much more now in the DR to request...

Thanks
Rocio

copies are needed when sending the packet to USCIS, but originals are needed at the interview.

tropical,

You should always be prepared to show an original (or certified copy) of any document submitted. It may/may not be asked for, but they can and often do. I know some things are a hassle to get, but once you have them, you can keep them in a safe place for when they're needed down the road. good.gif

Each consulate handles things differently. In some cases in could be originals or copies or even multiple copies and the original. You should provide the documentst (copies or originals) exactly in the form as the consulate requests. The requirements are in the information packet you should receive.

Copies is ok, but your spouse need the originals on hand with them if they ask to see them. But your copies should be good

Also, even though copies are ok to send to the USCIS, originals or certified copies have to be mailed to the NVC (CR1/IR1 visas) if they request them. Copies are not accepted.
