So drum roll time! If there is such a thing called visa review meetings ( I suspect them, embassy and DOS denies them). It should be either on Tuesday or Wednesday....

it happens between the 1st- 6th of EVERY MONTH.
this is when AR/AP case Recommedations are adjudicated!!!
the embassy recommends approval with no objections- will send the case to DOS.
if the embassy recommends denial - it goes to NVC.
April it was held on 6th.
may it was held on the 3rd.

there are certain things that makes a case ready for the meeting one thing
is cleared security checks.

I will remind you. security checks is somethign that is not in control of the CO. all agencys must clear you. if anything is not cleared when you get to POE they will turn you around.

So are these visa review meetings at the end of the month or the begining of the month! I am confused!

During the visa review meeting - cases placed on AR/AP are recommended.
if the case is clear no objections the embassy makes a recommendation.
if approval DOS, if denial NVC. all cases on AR/AP has to go to the DOS.

What happens once Embassy has decided to Recommend they send the case on AR/AP to
DOS for futher clearance. * providing its a recommendation for approval * where it gets futher
security checks. its a Cable that is sent - not the actual file, unless its a recommendation for denial.

once at DOS the case has to be cleared from all agencys. this is time consuming depending on several things name hits, type of security checks, how many etc..

once case is compleate the DOS sends a Cable response of information to the Embassy.
this could be case compleate for example. Then its up do the Embassy to decide what to do next.
they could order more security checks, depending on what the cable said. or they can issue the visa.
we have seen case compleate 2 times and still had more security checks orderd.

these are the email responses i received from the embassy in the past couple of weeks. these are confusing answers to the questions i asked ragarding my husbands K3 visa(which he is on AR/AP at the moment) and CR1 case (which arrived at the embassy last month):

We cannot predict the time duration and also as we will process his immigration case i.e. why he needs to appear for his immigration interview. No he doesn't have to wait for the security clearance on his immigration case but still the final decision is only upto the Consular Officer.

is it just me or are their answers confusing? does anyone understand what they are saying in these emails??

also,my husband said that they took fingerprints of his index fingers only when he had his interview back in april. is that good or bad? i mean, don't they usually take prints of all fingers?

he also received some documents recently in the mail from the embassy. he did not send them anything but just wrote to them saying that all of his papers/info are already in islambad. should he fill out these documents?

Okay here goes two index prints are good. If full set he would of had a name hit already.

They are saying that your in AP now and once it finishes on the k3 they will interview for the IR1. I personally think you can have them merge the files like Shonnie and then they will issue the IR1.

The CR1 or IR1 visa will cancel out the K3.

anyone knows the email address of DOS?

After 2 interviews, 2 bio metrics, 2 medicals, we got 5 e mails for AOS appoval. so far no green card no letters to wellcome to USA. it took 10 months for USCIS to approve my wife,s case. we made several info pass appointments. visited local USCIS about more than 10 times. wrote several letters to every one involved. it was hard work. good luck to every one.

I Think the only way to contact DOS is 'Telephone' No e.mail

WE GOT THE GREEN CARD in the mail today. good bye USCIS. good luck to all of you , who are waiting for visa. Ater you get the visa, it is not over yet. its a long battle.
10 months of waiting. 2 interviews, 2 medicals. 2 bio-metrics. several visits to USCIS. lots of letter writing. finally it paid off.

DOS tells me today that they have sent a cable to embassy 1.5 weeks ago and yet no action on the embassy part. DOS says they have done what embassy had requested (Just one check) and now embassy has to decide what next. So far we heard nothing from embassy and they replied to my email with same AP pending response even though DOS has sent them a cable. So what should I expect? After DOS completes what is asked from them, will embassy get nice and issue the visa or what else? Any information? Thanks!

this happend to me 3 times

we got case compleate Oct ,nov, jan.
ultimately they ended up sending more security checks on us.
for you 3 things could happen..

1... they issue the visa
2.. wait til the visa review meeting and decide
3.. if you have not had a field investigation that could happen too.
4.. or order more security checks.

yes you did get 221g. it means admin review/ admin processing.
if they dont issue the visa the same day. they give you a TEMP denial. they have to give
the visa the same day or give you an excuse. in this case they issued you a TEMP denial
but, to not add confusion you are placed on AR/AP. since you are applying for
IR1 expect field investigation next if you have not had it yet.

DOnt worry Lars! Everything will be ok. 221 (g) is perfectly normal and u will hear from the embassy soon. It all depends on how common your husband is!

Try not to worry about a field investigation. F.I all depends on how satisfied the Consular was with your husband! Keep posting on here!

Lol. Today a few family members had an appointment for non immigrant visas. The females got the visas! but the the male was put into AR! Lol. The male was 55 years of age.. And has traveled to the US like 32 times! lol!

You can contact them even now. It shouldnt be a problem. They can tell you when security clearances were ordered and if any one of them are cleared yet. Answers and details vary from person to person working at the visa services department

Let me make one thing very clear here:

Our AP/AR story is very different and infact very wierd from others or rest of you. I was at the embassy during the interview with my hubby. The interview went smooth and officer congratulated us and said you are approved for IV and you will get your visa in 2-3 weeks by mail and she kept the passport for visa. So we were not given and excuse or Form 221g or any word about AP/AR. We were only given a small token with a number to go and submit the fee for visa & passport delivery which we did. Later, when we called to see if the passport is mailed back, they told us on the phone that it is pending AP which was a new and shocking story.

From what I read here in others posts and experiences, they are told at the interview about AP/AR *BUT* in our case we were told, "Congratulation!, you are approved for IV". Unbelievable that we got back to AP/AR crap!!!!!!!

The embassy can not issue a visa to anyone unless they have cleared security checks!! it dont matter what country you are from these. security checks can last from a few days to 2 years. they do them at diffrent levels and there are diffrent reasons. its not the CO that ordered the security checks. it was a directive higher up. i said it once I will say it again. : supposed the CO granted your visa. what you think would have happend? you think your SO would have been granted entry in the USA? infact he would have been turn around not only that possible facing a 5 year bann for attempting to enter with a non valid visa. I know you would not want that fate. I have seen it happen. recently infact!!!

Thats why you have NOT been given a visa. like it or not thats the process. rather they call it
221g or AP/AR. TEMP denial is what it is really called . if it was really approved you would have visa in hand! 221g is the regulaton that prohibits issuing of a visa - its used to request more information.

your case sounds diffrent to YOU. but, not to use those of us that have been playing this game for a long time. most of us received the TOKEN. thats really nothing but a method of tracking your passport.

I am safe in saying everyone on this thread has studied AR/AP. I think you should gain a little knowledge by reading my signature about the Admin review/ AP process. Then you can certainly know what to expect.

The security checks go through about 13 diffrent agencys in the USA.
this explains the delays. hang in there..

i have been waiting from 2 weeks now...,

last time they told me one security check it took 44 days. - it was all clear.
this time its takeing 58 days..

I would say give it 30-90 days.
if this thing is pending 30 days get your congressman to inquire about your clearance check.
thats the best you can do for peace of mind.

did the embassy send a cable to DOS? I am assuming they did..
if so the congressman should be able to give you a fairly quick response. * lets hope! but, give it 30 days.
17 days was the shortest security check I have seen from ISL.

2nd. she can google search her congressman in the house of congress website.
3.. once there she will locate the congressman. then she fax in a privacy act statement and release form.
4.. call the congressmans office follow up with a phone call. follwing instant sendign of the fax.
in the fax include 1.. narrative of the situation 2.. documents like interview letters, 221g notice/letter.


rember add this phrase on all letters, emails and faxes....

No problem Ars yaar! Insha Allah it will be done soon! Too bad DOS doesnt tell you what check is pending. Acha keep calling the DOS every week or so. Everything will be ok! DOS updates every week for so. The updated last on 23rd, then on 1st so on.. So check after that!

I have a list people who are nice at DOS and the not so nice ones too! Go by that. Dont even talk to the visa specialist in the not so nice list. The will not only be rude, but wont help u in any way either.

Just an FYI for anyone waiting on fingerprints - called the FBI this morning... they said their current processing times are 10-12 weeks... my fiance's were taken on April 13th so they said it should be done by mid July...
