Yes, thanks for the response about the sealed immigration packet, my wife better have that.
What do you mean by X-rays - is that the medical report?
Yes, for customs, she would certainly have more than $800 of stuff, I wonder if they look at her bags more closely since they know she is immigrating.
What did they ask in the quick interview on arrival in the US?

Hi friends.
Atlast, i had happy reusion on August 15's eve.
I reached Houston after a long journey of 28 hours. I opted the route Karachi-Dubai-London-Houston. Upto London, Emirates was my host and later Continential served me.
Immigration process was smooth. They took 1 hour inorder to complete the paper proceedings. NO question asked except custom point of view and confirmation of my destination address. No fun seen for holding Xray and vaccination record.
And well, after reaching home. My daughter came in this world to say me "welcome home daddy!" as Allah blessed me Baby girl on August 16 (just within 20 hours i have landed houston).

And i must, once again, admit the guidence and help provided by this great site.
Thank you VJ. Thank you VJ's.

hey guys salaams,
My husband just had the interview at the Islamabad embassy and they said in four weeks they will email him wether they approve it or not for him to pick up his visa.
He had gotten in line at 5am and was out by 10:30am
my husband said that there were two other couples both from NY whose wife's received visa right there.
Questions asked:
What language you prefer: Urdu or English
Does your wife live alone in the US, date of her last visit with you in Abu Dhabi, repeatedly asked date of marriage, what he does, then again date of marriage, name of petitioner, Date of marriage, where your spouse works, saw all of the pictures,
Since my husband came from Abu Dhabi they asked why he didn't just apply from there. Because our marriage had taken place in Pakistan so he had to have his interview in Pakistan for a K-3 visa.
ok take care,
good luck to everyone
Farah
Congratulations... and hope the wait is short.

I am a U.S. Citizen and have submitted all the necessary forms for I-130 for my wife. The case was completed here in the U.S. and then forwarded on to the Embassy in Islamabad. The Embassy in Islamabad sent my wife a packet which requested certain documents. She then promptly submitted those documents through an agent (this was instructed by the Embassy). The agent forwarded the documents to the Embassy. After a week goes by, my wife decides to call the Embassy, only to find out her interview has been set for February 15, 2008, thats 6 months away. Any idea why this is? I have read other posts and timelines and its usually a month or so. We tried asking the Embassy and all they say is thats the only availability they have. Can anyone please shed some light. Thanks.

Samad, it's normal for the embassy to schedule interviews after 3-5 months. K-3 applicants are generally scheduled on the lower end of the spectrum (3 months or so), IR/CR ones are scheduled on the later end of the time line (4-5 months). I haven't seen a whole lot of cases where the interview was scheduled earlier than that. My wife's interview was scheduled in early July for the for very end of November. Generally embassy will not reschedule to an earlier date (unless there is an acute emergency).

How is everyone doing? I hope GREAT.
Islamabad embassy is taking way too long to schedule interviews. 6 months wait is norm for IR1/CR1 visa applicants, whereas K visa situation isn't better either with at least 4 months wait.
What can be done to minimize this wait? I know it has to do with limited staff at the embassy due to State Dept's Travel Advisory for Pakistan. Back in 2003 (I think) non-essential embassy staff and family members were advised to leave and haven't been allowed back yet.
I know NVC schedules interviews for some countries. I wonder what is the criteria for that? Not sure if its a good or bad thing but I have seen shorter wait time where NVC schedules interviews, Nigeria for example, has waiting period of 6 to 8 weeks. Not bad.

hi jaxguy!
I think the only control we have over this situation is at NVC level( I mean using the James shortcut). Other than that, realistically, I do not see any hope that the situation will get better in Islamabad considering the the current events in the country. Oh, Yes, there is going to be elections
The worst part is that if someone misses that interview due to family emergency, they may have to wait wait again for couple of months. I really want to know what is embassy's policy on this.
Hope they recieve your wife's petition soon!! Best of luck to you!!! and all !!!

You can cash check from any "Check Cashing" place. You will find one near your house usually in a strip mall. Also try "Western Union", I know they cash Tax Return checks, not sure if they will cash a pay check. They will charge some fee, but you will have cash.
Congratulations getting paid, sounds like its your first pay check in USA. Enjoy

Someone said that he paid only 1500 Pak Rupees, but it seems that there rates are much higher than that, but check them out. Regards, kim
Actually, Kim, I think Infinit meant Crown Palace...........NOT Crown Plaza. I spoke to someone on another forum and they stated that its a reasonable cheap place to stay. Thanks to InfinitBoy for the heads up.
Farah, I found "Crown Palace" in this list of Guest Houses from Islamabad Chamber of Commerce Site. There is also addresses and phone numbers of other guest houses on the same page:

Dear VJ Members,
I enter in USA on 29th July and now i have my GC and Social security number. Today i went to a bank to open my account but a lady there told me that your social security number not yet listed in banking system. What is the meaning of not in banking system ?? She told me to come back after 2 weeks. I am now working receive my first check from my company so from where i can cash that check ???
Thanks and looking some help.
Zaki
You can cash check from any "Check Cashing" place. You will find one near your house usually in a strip mall. Also try "Western Union", I know they cash Tax Return checks, not sure if they will cash a pay check. They will charge some fee, but you will have cash.
Congratulations getting paid, sounds like its your first pay check in USA. Enjoy
Thanks jaxguy, yes it is my first pay check.

Zaki, that's a pretty weird situation ... I don't know if banks have access to SS database. If I were you, I would try going to another bank .... or open a joint account with your spouse.

Best of luck to you!!! and all !!!
I hope elections will be peaceful there. Anything we can do at the State Dept. level or write to US Ambassdor in Pak?
My wife's case (electronic data) got there on Tuesday. I am hoping she will get packet 3.5 next week.
Thanks for your well wishes
We can definitely write to the ambassador; however, I do not think they are going to reduce this waiting time. The problem, as you mentioned, is that they do not have enough staff and they also have to take other interviews, I mean Visit and Student visas. Let's hope and see what happens!! By the way, can you tell me how did you find out that they received your wife's case (Electronic data). Did you find out through NVC system or emailing them in Islamabad!! Good luck again. Regards, kim
