Hi friends.
Atlast, i had happy reusion on August 15's eve.
I reached Houston after a long journey of 28 hours. I opted the route Karachi-Dubai-London-Houston. Upto London, Emirates was my host and later Continential served me.
Immigration process was smooth. They took 1 hour inorder to complete the paper proceedings. NO question asked except custom point of view and confirmation of my destination address. No fun seen for holding Xray and vaccination record.
And well, after reaching home. My daughter came in this world to say me "welcome home daddy!" as Allah blessed me Baby girl on August 16 (just within 20 hours i have landed houston).

Hello everyone,
I just have one other question. When the Islamabad Embassy finally sends the passport back via courier after an IR interview, are they still using a wet red ink stamp for the visa ? The K3 visa is actually a computerized sticker and I was wondering what the IR will look like.
I just saw this on the PIA Website:
All passengers travelling through United Kingdom and holding the following documents require a Direct Airside Transit Visa (DATV):
Passengers travelling to USA
Alien resident card (green card) issued before 21st April,1998.
I-551 stamp (red colour wet stamp). This stamp is issued to passengers whose alien resident card is under process.
Refugee passport. However, passenger doesnot require DATV if also holding permanent resident card issued after 21st April,1998.
Transportation letter.
Letter of parole.
BTW, someone told me PIA has further reduced the baggage weight requirements for people traveling to the U.S. It using to be approximately 60 lbs and I believe now its 50 lbs per suitcase (maximum 2 per person). I will have to confirm that with PIA.

Does NVC really pay attention to date on cover letter vs. the date it generates letter in case my July 30th guess is wrong? Whats the worst can happen?
Fingers crossed........ Wish me, specially my wife, luck.

This is from PIA's website. And yes, its true, 2 pieces of checked luggage, 50 lbs each.
http://www.piac.com.pk/PIA_Experience/pia-...gagesvc.asp#RBA"Revised Baggage Allowance
New security rules at various airports have compelled PIA to revise its free baggage allowance for Europe and US destinations to improve baggage service to its valued customers in current scenario.
Checked baggage allowance to and from USA/Canada has been revised to 23 Kgs. per piece , two pieces per person allowed from August 1,2007, although the passengers ticketed till 31st July,2007 shall be allowed a baggage allowance of 28kg per piece"

I apologize if this question has been asked before. I am trying to search within this thread but that feature is not allowed. And this thread is toooo long for me to browse hundreds of pages.
I want a cheap (but clean) hotel to stay in Islamabad only for 1 night. The last time I stayed in the Marina International (Blue Area) only a few years ago and it was not such a great place. The bathroom was dirty and the sheets not so immaculate. I definately want something close to the Embassy but reasonable as well. I wouldnt mind a guest house either. One thing I noticed is that if you tell the hotel that ur going to the Embassy, they tend to raise their rates.
I would appreciate any replys on this matter.
Thanking you in advance.

I have a question. A friend of mine, a US Citizen, likes to know if someone has experience sending some sort of "Sponsorship" in order to help his/her brother get visit visa in Islamabad?
What documents are required?
Is there any sample letter to accompany the documentation?
Please share any info you might have. Thanks

Just praying and hoping for my husband's interview to go smoothly, very very nervous. A acquaintance of mine tried to sponsor his brother. From what I know he send his taxes, job letter, and also statement of why he would like his brother to come. other things which might help is proof of financial responsibility such as good bank statements which shows steady income on checking and savings accounts from both parties. Because the US embassy wants reassurance that the person going will not become a public charge or illegal immigrant.

hey guys salaams,
My husband just had the interview at the Islamabad embassy and they said in four weeks they will email him wether they approve it or not for him to pick up his visa.
He had gotten in line at 5am and was out by 10:30am
my husband said that there were two other couples both from NY whose wife's received visa right there.
Questions asked:
What language you prefer: Urdu or English
Does your wife live alone in the US, date of her last visit with you in Abu Dhabi, repeatedly asked date of marriage, what he does, then again date of marriage, name of petitioner, Date of marriage, where your spouse works, saw all of the pictures,
Since my husband came from Abu Dhabi they asked why he didn't just apply from there. Because our marriage had taken place in Pakistan so he had to have his interview in Pakistan for a K-3 visa.

Here is what I have seen in this forum, not sure how accurate it is now. Someone with recent experience please confirm.
Requirements for packet 3.5 (CR-1):
1- Ds-230 part 1 and part 2 (remember you sign part 1 but do not sign part 2, you sign it infront of the CO).
2- Orignal copy of Marriage certificate and translated copy (if marriage certificate was in Urdu).
3-Police Certificate.
4-Medical report (no X-rays reports).
5-Death or divorce certificate of previous marriage (this options only apply to Beneficiary).
6- If I-864 is not submitted at NVC, must turn it in with Packet 3.5
7- If I-864 submitted at NVC, then the beneficiary must write a 1 page letter stating that the petitioner has submitted the I-864 at the NVC.
8- 2 pictures.
9- orignal copy of Birth Certificate and translated copy (if orignal was in Urdu).

I stayed in Crown Place when I took my wife for her interview back in March, its not very great but not too bad for the price, I paid about 1500.00 rupees for one day
Thanks

Actually, Kim, I think Infinit meant Crown Palace...........NOT Crown Plaza. I spoke to someone on another forum and they stated that its a reasonable cheap place to stay. Thanks to InfinitBoy for the heads up.

I wanted to ask 2 things
1.) - when my wife arrives in the US (at the airport), what can she expect. What does Customs and Border Patrol do to new K-3 arrivals? Do they conduct and interview? What papers does she need to bring?
2/) Also, for people moving to the US, I have read that customs allows some items to be imported duty free. HAs anyone had a problem with customs and paying duty?
thanks

I got here in the US on IR-1 through PIA and brought 5 peices no customs at Karachi or in the US, I just paid for the extra pieces.
She needs to fill out I-94,customs card and her sealed visa packet for the immigration officer at the port of entry.
I was interviewed at the airport even though I have been married for over 6 years and have a 5 years old daughter in the US.
By the way I forgot my X-Ray in Pak but they didn't ask for it, took 10 minutes for the entire process besides the 3 hours wait to reach the counter.

I guess the question from OP is more along the lines of whether you pay additional customs fees above what is the regular CBP duty-free personal exemption if you are an immigrant landing for the first time.
I think the regular allowence is something like $800. Did you have more than $800 worth of possessions when you landed the first time?

Yep. First the electronic file, a week or two later they will receive the papers.
