Excuse me but therre is nothing 'Nasty' about Pakistan yes there is a way of life there which is different from the way of life here and although its ok for anyone going from one country to another to take precautions it's definately NOT OK to make remarks like these. Having lived there a good part of my life (most of it in Karachi but I have visited Peshawar) I can tell you that you will have a great time as you take some minor precautions. Goodluck!

Thank you for all your input on my questions. I know we have a long road ahead us as too how we will be together. We havent decided on how yet. After we get married i guess will we decide then. I first need to go and visit and see if it may be possible for me to live there for awhile. I am not really afraid of getting sick there from food ( I will be careful). I know about all the precautions to take for my health , as you would for any country you visited, including USA. I am just concerned about traveling alone as a woman going to a muslim country. Tariq says everything will be ok so I guess I will just have to trust him.

I traveled to Pakistan alone and did not have any real problems. Just take and get your vaccinations, take some travel size medications like any other trip and inform the state department of your travel plans, get your SO cell number and keep on you if you need to contact him. I actually got an upper respiratory infection and my husband went to a pharmacy and got antibiotics without seeing a dr or a rx and got me on the mend. I did not drink the water unless bottled and that is a precaution with any country. As others have mentioned your immune system will not be accustomed to the bacteria there and you may have an upset tummy. You will find traveling alone once inside the country with your SO that so many people will look at you, want pictures or attempt to talk to you since they are curious about you but they are so FRIENDLY . Enjoy your trip!

Got letter from NVC today regarding upgrading my wife's petition. All it states that "We have received your inquiry and when we will make a decision we'll let you know"

Is it a standard reply? How long do they take to upgrade a petition?

Thanks, There is no doubt that we can prove the marriage. We have pics, invitation cards (shaadi & valima) honeymoon hotel receipts, pics from our honeymoon, etc. This whole AP/AR thing sucks. I mean look at Khurram, he's been married for a while, and they still put his wife on ap, that's just BS. Some other cases may seem shady but look at his situation....he's totally real, the guys been married for three years and they put him through this torture. I know there are many others, but since he is the latest, that is why I chose to discuss his case. Also look at your situation. I don't know much about your relationship with your wife (time, etc) and if she gave enough info. But I am really getting "shaky" here.

I am not sure if AR/AP has much to do with proving a legitimate marriage. My understanding is AR/AP has more to do with checking background to ensure that that person means no harm to US.

Having said that, I think you are right that after years of being married and having to put up the difficulties endured in awful situation of being away from ones spouse that one has to put up with these AR/AP delays.

I mean if there needs to be a security check start at the time of application initiation or if there are other security checks that happen at other stages of the application than why aren't they enough?

I know security checks also start on both parties when the petition is sent to the service center, then it can also be pulled and put in AR/AP at the NVC level if a name hit or something else in the background comes up. Then it goes to the embassy/consulate and more checks are done. At the time of the interview if you give 10 fingerprints it means you have already had a name hit or some type of check that has to be verified more closely than the index prints. So this process is long and timesome from start to finish. Good luck to all of you that are separated and waiting on your SO.

Thank you guyz for your support, The reason why I am so angry about this AP is because I went through a year of security clearance myself for a lenthy year when I had my citizenship application filed. Although this AR/AP is hitting a nerve, I have to somewhat agree with Mary. There are a lot of frauds, and then some poor innocent souls suffer. Kinda like stereotyping/dicrimmination. I guess this is reality and we gotta deal with it.

How about taking our DNA and calling it a day. Or better yet, install a tracking sensor to monitor......ah, nevermind, getting ahead of myself here. I can't even decide if I should blow two to three grand to be with my wife for a week or two.

Did anyone's spouse use the online applciations (newer versions) rather than the ones given by the Islamabad embassy in the K-3 packet (older versions) ?
because I was reading through VJ and couple of people who went for interview with the newer version online applcations were refused and were told to come at another time and fill out the application forms which are the given in the K-3 packet (older versions)?

My wife's K3 visa was last week and she used the online forms. She made sure they matched what she received in the mail first and then just typed all the information on the PDF file. Nobody had any issues of it during the time of the interview and they kept all her documents. I believe there was 1 document about your parents information that wasn't online, so she used the document given to her.

Hi everyone,

My wife just informed me that AMEX called and asked her to pick up her passport. She went there during her lunch break and got her passport and new K3 visa.

She also received a semi-sealed package and was told not to open it. I believe this is for the immigration officer at the POE. She can see inside the envelope and said all her checklist documents appear to be inside.

As you can imagine, I'm pretty happy about all of this. It also shows some hope to the others that were worried about their future interviews.

I called NVC this morning (6:30 AM EDT) and got the news, my wife's petition has been upgraded from F2A to IR1.

I mailed my wife's I-129F today. They should receive it tomorrow. I am hoping that this time they do not forget to send me the receipt notice as they did with I-130.
