Hello Everyone,

My wife's interview is in June. I will appreciate if anyone can post the whole process of going to the embassy. I heard that the person needs to go to the convention center where buses are boarded, that bus drops at the embassy etc etc. For example, if the interview is at 8:30, what is a safe time to be at the convention center and how big lines are at the embassy, how long does it take to clear all the security and be ready to go the window. Any other related information will be helpful also.

Also, is there any wait (days, months) after the interview in case of CR-1 visa. Because everyone here is going for K-3 except me.

Thanks

Chicago

Here is a page that I put together when we were going thru islamabad....there is a post in there that tells you exactly on how to get to the embassy...I pritned it out and was able to get to the embassy without any problems....although this is a bit old and if there is anything that has changed please let me know and I will change it...

I emailed the embassy asking if they can move the interview date up to an earlier date, and that I have all the docs ready and complete.
In response, they asked for a case # to refer to. I just sent a general email, and didn't specify my detailed info. I was afraid to respond, because the last thing I want to do is to irritate the embassy people.

Is it possible to lose your spot if they try to reassign a different date?

Any thoughts???

A wise man told me once not to push my luck, but I am trying to get some new advice, and seek out anyone who may have tried this type of attempt.

hey zeyad
no harm in emailing the embassy over and over again
i emailed them almost every 10 days to get our interview date changed..even though they said its not possible-i would just email again to ask if they would change their minds-and they did. it really depends on if they can accommodate you in another time-slot. you should give them your detailed info because they cannot do anything without it and why you want to get it changed.
its always worth a shot-u wont lose anything..so definitely try!
take care
n good luck!

Saedah, How far did they move it. and during the interview was there any signs of frustration cause you moved it. I talked with my wife about this, and she fears that they may react and move it out even further thinking that we are impatient.

I still think that there is nothing to lose, since they already have designated a spot for her.

zeyad
the interview was going to be in mid nov and they changed it to mid sept
no they were not annoyed at all...i asked them so many times.trust me i emailed them almost every 10 days to ask if there was any way possible-and i would appreciate their help...and one day i got lucky and they cnahged the date
the prob dont even remember during the interview abt changing dates since they never even mentioned it
also...they only change it if they can accomodate u-so they wont be doing u any favors by changing the date..
they cant just get mad at someone for asking.they work there and it is their job to serve ppl...

I called them every day when my wife's case was in the embassy....they didnt get mad at all...usually they get mad when someone from Pakistan calls them but if someone from US calls them they dont have a problem.....also not only I called them but I also emailed them every other day. I was able to move my interview date from May 9 to April 9th 2005 since I was in pakistan and wanted to be at the interview with my wife which made a very big difference for my wife specially and made her very confidant. I know its old history but just wanted to let you know...Good Luck!!

My wife wasn't asked for the two passport size photos at the interview, she did have photos pasted on her DS-156. Does anyone know if that's why they needed it or will she be called for them later?

I am sure, we only need to paste photos on DS 156 forms only, so she won't be asked for them later.

Was your wife put on AP/AR? Did she get her passport right away?

By the way, when I called, the guy had stated that most men go through this AP process and a low percentage of woman do. Also, he said that the officer can decide if AP is needed. He couldn't give me an answer.

When was the last time they met?  I would hope that three years have not passed and they have not met?  If so they may have an issue of not being able to show ongoing communication.  Same thing happened with chaingang here recently and his case is NOIR now.

There is no time limit as long as there is on going communications between the spouses. I applied for my wife after my 3rd year anniversary as well
Ali Khan
If both of them have proof of visits and being together during these five years they should be fine. However if they havent seen each other for 5 years then they may have an uphill task of convincing the CO of an ongoing relationship.

hey Saeedah,
the problem over here is that when someone does get approved they don'y update others as they just stop showing up. I think they should at least do the courtesy of updating everyone so we have a little perspective on the timelines.
Anyway, my wife is on AP as well so i am in the same boat with you guyz. sad.gif

All,

My wife's K3 interview was today and I just wanted to let you know the brief things I found out already.

She was told by the lady she is approved and should get her visa in "a few weeks". The embassy kept all her documents that were on the checklist, including her passport, all the certificates, and all my tax information.

My wife was handed a white paper with some american express locations written on them, plus a pink square sheet of paper that did not state any information clearly.

My wife told me the lady who interviewed her didn't seem to be a good mood from the beginning and asked tons of questions and smiled barely once. Compared to what i've read here, it appears my wife had many more questions to answer. They asked alot about me and how we met in detail. Her interview time was at 8 in the morning and she was already back home by 10:30, so it went much quicker than I thought.

I'm going to talk to her in detail later today and post more information then. I'm glad the interview went well and hopefully this wait/AR will be over soon. The fact that they embassy kept all her info and passport I believe is a good thing.

Thank you all for your help.... and just another hundred more steps or so until the entire visajourney is over.

Most people do report upon getting the visa. Unfortunately, very few (I'm talking about the men applicants only) on this thread have actually received the visa this year. Quite frankly, when you're waiting for years to be reunited with your family, you don't feel like talking much anyways.

Congrats Oasriz, I think you're more than half way there. Your wife's visa is obviously approved, and I think that she will be getting it in a few weeks like many others. From what I saw, It has been 2 weeks from the time of interview. What I don't understand is the "pink slip" comment. If they took everything and said that she will get her visa in a few weeks and gave her
Amex info, that probably means that she is good to go. But then again, i'm not sure if Khurram's wife got the white and pink sheet. I think he said something about 30 to 60 days or even sooner. I guess i'm up next. All these pink slips make me want to go and attend with her.

Great document Khurram. What are you having your wife do during the wait? I believe you started inquiring about additional vacctinations for later. My wife's travel agent again insists she needs a transit visa to go through the UK. I want her to speak directly to a PIA spokesperson as well, as we have all found information to the contrary.

I should get the scan of the documents they gave my wife along with the questions they asked her. Of course, I'll post them here as soon as I get them.

She received two documents. One was a white sheet of paper with the local AMEX information. The other was a small pink square sheet that has 4 digits written on it., no words I'm hoping this is just the token.

Good luck to everyone.
KHURRAM SERAJ
You guyz can track your case going to Islamabad by:

Tracking the diplomatic pouches you can see what day you think it left and track but all are just listed by country and does not specifiy the names or types of visas.

http://track.dhl-usa.com/TrackByRef.asp?nav=TrackByRef

Track by reference number of I-730 and the date you think it mailed. Also, contact NVC and inquire on the status 603-334-0700 and they can tell you if and when the pouch was sent.

Sorry Got Side tracked, Congratulations on the Interview buddy!!
Hopefully she will be with you soon, I they guess they treat everyone different as My wife was asked for only a few items off the checklist. I actually was bummed by it as i spent a great deal of time making sure everything was there and was well organized
Once again Buddy CONGRATULATION!!!

Thanks Khurram. I'm sure your process will be over quickly. I was surprised with the documents also. My wife said the lady took all the documents out of our folder and laid them on the table.. she then verified each document with the checklist to ensure everything was there.

The embassy kept everything except her original certificates (police, wedding, birth) and our pictures.

Unless I am missing something. sounds like she will have the visa shortly. Congrats again. kicking.gif

My wife wasn't asked for the two passport size photos at the interview, she did have photos pasted on her DS-156. Does anyone know if that's why they needed it or will she be called for them later?

I had a question for you: I wanted to know if you can tell me what the procedure is for getting in to the islamabad embassy. Because my husband has to be there in august for his interview and he lives in Abu Dhabi so we both have no idea what time he should start arriving at the embassy. Also if you can tell me when the line starts and is there a different line for ppl with interview letter etc? If you can help I would greatly appreciate it. Oh also do u know if your wife took all of her wedding albums or is it ok if we provide them with pictures?

thanks

Copied from a post by Junglee: islamabad has an area called the diplomatic enclave - it is located on the eastern side of the city. basically, its a street that houses all the embassies ...french, american, chinese, uk, etc. the american embassy, by my estimates is the largest, and is also the last one on the street. in the aftermath of 9/11 and the security concerns generated soon afterwards, the entire street has been shut down to public. there used to be a time when you could simply drive up to the embassy of your choice, park in their designated parking area, and walk in. now, times have changed, and the street is barraccaded by police, huge road blocks, fences, gates, gaurds - the works. the ony people allowed in or out are diplomats, and other government officials. visa seekers have to go through hell to get in.

all cr1 visas are scheduled for 8 am. everyone gets the same time. the embassy does interviews for immigrant and non immigrant visas between the hours of 8 am and 1230 pm. they proceed to return passports and immigration packets after 2pm, up until 430 pm.

the beneficiary shows up at the convention center parking lot - located right outside the entrance of the diplomatic enclave. you can reach this area by telling any cab driver that you are headed towards the diplomatic enclave - if you plan on parking or driving into this parking lot - there is a 15 rupee fee.

then you proceed to walk into a dirt area, fenced up, with various lines and booths. the only way to figure out where to go is to ask around like a moron, or watch - or read this post :-)

first and foremost - no bags are allowed in - women can take in purses, but no backpacks, or handbags are allowed - and inadvertantly everyone decides to take a bag with them to house all their documentation. don't - place all your documents in a plastic bag - as that is allowed. if you do take a bag, you u gwill have to leave it there, and pay 15 rupees for them to keep it for the day.

secondly, no cell phones are allowed in either. there is a booth that will hold your cell phone, for a charge of 5 rupees - i left my phone there on three occasions, it is pretty safe.

once you get rid of your bags, and cell phone - and make sure you do this first or you will be turned back later to do so, you move on to get a ticket. going to the us embassy costs 30 rupees per person, roundtrip. you buy a ticket, and typically will have to stand in a line for this. the first bus, as of current, that goes to the us embassy leaves at 730 am. the line starts forming at 6 am.

once you buy the ticekt, you go through a check point where they will search you and your belongings (plastic bag of documents) - beyond this check point are four seperate lines. line 4 is the line for the shuttle going to the us and french embassies. the first three lines go elsewhere.

you wait in this line until the shuttle comes. there is one shuttle that goes to the us embassy -it is a smally coaster, not even a bus. it picks up passengers, goes to the french embassy, then the us, then returns, picks up more. in the morning hours, before lunch, it runs frequently.

once you get on the bus, you arrive across the street from us embassy visa section entrance. here, you form another line - a security gaurd lines you up across the street and lets you cross in small groups. once you cross the street, you go through security again, a quick check of you and your belongings. women should be warned to keep minimal items in their purse - lots of things are confiscated - anything with metal - and will be returned when you are done. also, you have to leave behind any lighters, cigarettes, matches, etc. once you pass this check point, you get into another line waiting to enter the embassy.

they let you in a few at a time, and finally, you get to walk into the embassy - where you are confronted by yet another security check - but here there is a metal detector. its like the metal detectors found at most airports - take off belts, shoes, etc. for desi women especially - try not to wear bengals, and earings, and crap. it's just a nuisance. as you are passing through this last checkpoint, they will collect your appointment letters.

you come through this area and arrive kinda in a outdoorsy, yet covered area, with a few chairs/benches, and a little coffe/tea shop that sells small snacks and drinks.

you walk past that area, open the door, and are inside the waiting room, with 12 windows (window 1 being a room).

please keep in mind that in order to get to this place at 8 am, you should be at the convention centet parking lot around 6-630 am. also, you cannot take food in, so you are forced to snacking on whatever crap they have in that little store. it will take til atleast 2 pm, if not later before you can leave. there are no phones inside

My wife did take with her our wedding album buth the CO actually said that you only needed to bring 10 pictures not the whole album but smiled so I think as long as you have enough pictures you should be fine

You are welcome!
I don't think that it should be an issue at all. Just make sure you keep the forwarding on from your old address and make an Infopass appointment just to confirm it as well

Your case can take up to weeks before they have the electronic and hard copies matched and in the system. Good luck and they will not tell your case is at the consulate.
