Hi everyone,

Ali said his interview went well. They asked him questions and requested that he get a few more documents. I believe he has max. 25 days to return the new docs, then they said 45days to 1 mo. for approval (?).

He chose to be interviewed in English and said they were very kind. Here are the questions he was asked:

Where did you meet your fiance?

How do you know her?

How many times has she come to Pakistan?

Where is she from in the United States?

What she is doing (for work) in the United States?

When were you engaged?
Where were you engaged?

Has she met your family?

Do you have some pictures?

When did she meet your family?

How much time have you spend together?

Where is your child living?

When you are going to marry?

So, he apparently needs to get another police certificate from his village - the one he gave them is not enough because it doesn't have a photo of him on it. He also has to get another divorce certificate from the civil authority in his home village. Not sure why what he presented wasn't sufficient...

He said everyone was nice. They took a full set of fingerprints and had him pay his fee.

He also said there were several others there, one guy and several women. He didn't know if anyone was approved that day or not.

Best of luck to everyone. Hope this helps you getting ready for the interviews...

Hi Folks,

I do follow this thread as I am from Pakistan but dont post on it that much as I am in Canada and going thru the Montreal Consulate. You may or may not have the answer for my question but please tell me what you think is happening here. I had an IR-1 interview at the Montreal Consulate and the interview went well and I was told I would get the visa the following week. This did not happen and when we contacted the consulate we were told to wait 2 weeks. Now what I think is that because my country of birth is Pakistan (I lived there till 1998) I am stuck in Security Clearances but isnt it strange that I was not given any information after the interview that it would take longer then a week. What do you think is happening here? And what do you think I should do....are you aware of any forum or topic here which is tracking Pakistanis going thru Montreal or Vancouver? As you can understand me and wife were not expecting this roadblock specially when we were given an assurance by the CO that I would get the visa in a week.

Thanks,
FaK

Fak all the men that are stuck in AR/AP are usually told it will take one week, two weeks or 45 days that go thru Islamabad and end up stuck in security clearances. I know our 45 days LOL when I contacted them they said 45 business days and this came and went. NO ONE can tell you how long you will be stuck in security checks. I see you around on VJ and you can see the ones that are trying to AOS stateside that are stuck in long checks as well. Bradlow, Rebeccajo, etc. Depending on what checks they are doing some checks can come back clear and be on hold for one or more that have not cleared. Once these clear sometimes the earlier cleared checks have expired and must be sent back for rechecks again. Sad but true and it is like a dog chasing it's own tail when this is happening.

I am not aware of any thread or stats for these figures. Good luck and hope your checks are cleared soon so you can be with your wife.

Fasel and others, well my wife is not on AP because they have told her she is approved and should expect her passport back within 5 business days. Since then AMEX is claiming they have not recieved passport from Embassy yet.
I try to call Embassy everyday but you know how is US embassy. No one answer and always on hold. I am just wondering what if AMEX lost ir or misplaced it (its happen before with someone else).

I am so confused!

FASEL: Flights are available by Emirates or Eithad as well as PIA. Where she will be flying from? I mean Karachi, lahore or Islamambad? I can help you to get flight if she is ready to fly soon.

Hey everyone! Hope your all making progress in your cases... i Just stumbled upon something today... and i feel like kicking myself so hard... no one and i mean NO ONE has ever told me about a k-3 visa.. when i went to the local USCIS office... and told them i wanted to bring my husband here... they ofcourse told me about the Ir-1 process... and i was just reading about k-3... and its seems its so much easier and a FASTER way to bring my husband here??? Is it just my misunderstanding.. or is it true?? Im so confused.. and i feel so stupid... its been 1 year and 3 months since we applied, and his interview in in JULY 25, 2007... i mean i dont know, from what i read k-3 sounds easier and faster... anyone has any insight on this to make me feel less stupid and guilty... helpsmilie.gif
Fasel
Takram, Ive been to AMEX in Karachi and they seem very organized and high on volume as well. I dont think AMEX can misplace your wife's file, just give it a week or two. Look on the bright side, atleast she wasnt put on AP and was given a visa straight.

Hey, there - it sounds like K-3 might have brought your husband a little faster to the States, but the process isn't necessarily easier - he would have had to apply for adjustment of status while in the USA, and in the end you might have spent a lot more time (and definitely more money) by the time he got his work authorization card, social security number, medical exams, etc.. People arriving with a K-3 visa can't work for the first few months (or more, if USCIS messes things up) and some have a hard time getting a drivers license, bank accounts, etc., because they're in a sort of immigration no-man's land until they adjust status. By getting the IR-1 Visa, he essentially arrives in the USA with all that work DONE, his Greencard should get mailed to him reasonably quickly, and he is legally allowed to work the day he arrives (although a lot of employers prefer to wait until he has his Social Security number). So, feel better - the way you've done things, he'll arrive in the USA ready to live and prosper and done with (most of the) immigration hassles! smile.gif

Hi All

Yesterday i came back from islamabad embassy and i had my interview on MARCH, 13, 2007. When i reach the american embassy i was told that i stand in yellow line bar and i stand there for forty five minutes and the guard outside sending the other people who were applying for visit visa after throughly checking the documents and when i ask about me and he told me as your is immigrant visa so the immigrant visa officer comes and takes your appointment letter so after waiting a long then i was told go inside and again after thorough checking i was told to submit my appointment letter at window number 07

I sat down and after few minutes my names was called again at window and i was asked to submit the hundred dollar fee or equivalent Pakistan rupees. After paying the fees in dollars i was told to sit again.

After fifteen minutes or so then they called me and other people who were also immigrant visa seekers we were given the parents information form to fill which was remained with me.

I filled up that form and again my name was called at window a pakistani lady was there and she ask for my co sponsor proof of his american nationality and i gave her the original and the photocopy of his birth certificate and after looking she gave me the original back and kept the photocopy with her and asked me will u interview in english or urdu and i said english and she also asked me a tricky question that when u got married and did nikkah and i told her i m not married and i m on k-1. I was told to sit and we call u again

Finally my named was called and i had to go for my interview, a young blonde consulor lady there and asked me the following questions

When did u met

where did u meet at

how did the relationship started in detail

did your family approve

what is her religion

what kind of marriage will u have

what is my qualification

what i do

when did u met in person

who is co sponsor u

what is the age of your co sponsor

what work u do in america

she looked at the pictures i bring with me. i had placed everything infront of the window so that if she want i just give it to her emails, chat records, calling cards, wishing cards etc.

she asked about my parents

did u do umra or haj

did u have any criminal record

I told her i bring all these chat email and cards and wishing cards to show and she just reply me that you are well prepared for the interview and anyhow she did not say me congrajulations and welcome to america as i read in other forum.

Did ALI was told congratulations?

She was nice and asked me all the questions politely and then she gave me the paper of AP and i asked that it is approval she told me we now checked ur back ground check i asked how long it take she said it takes she reply month or couple of month and gave me another letter of a courier list with the PINK SLIP and contact your courier

So what it means that i m in the process of approval or approved?

PLS RESPONSE THANKS

I forgot to mention they also took my finger prints of my both hands first with two thumb impression together and four fingers of both right and left hand seperately.

Now start counting my days when this AP will be over.
MaryandMian
faal4anisa thanks for the update and wishing you all the best on the AP.

Fasel congratulations on your wife's getting her visa in hand. XStrangerX2007 the k3 is supposed to bring the spouse over faster than the CR1 but it does not always work this way especially coming out of Pakistan. AR/AP is still an issue and once they are issued the visa then you have to worry about the EAD work authorization being approved in the states as malka mentioned. Also, if you file the K3 and the CR1 the embassy can cancel the K3 and make you take the CR1. This happened in my case and Babybunny aka Shonnie is in this process now. They had to endure AR/AP on her K3 and then the embassy canceled it and started the AR/AP on her husband Javed's CR1.

takram2000 sorry to hear that your wife has still not received her visa and hope that it is delivered soon.

Fasel, I called DOS too but they r not telling me wheater visa is isued or mailed. I know my wife had k3 interview on March 6th and she ws approved but not recieved he passport yet. Other who had nterview on March 6th did get passport on March 9th.

any clue?

Once I submitted the documents they required it took my wife 1.5 weeks to get her visa. Basically wait for the magical phone call it can come anyday. Once she gets it getting the ticket to come is not hard, it took my wife 1.5 weeks to get here after she got her visa. Wait some time before you start inquiring as well.

Update on our case- SHE GOT THE VISA.
I apologize for not updating sooner as I was trying to catch up on work etc.

I am being descriptive to assist anyone in the future regarding the procedures etc. if you need any detailed info. please PM me.

Claudia got a phone call February 8th from AMEX stating that she got an appointment with the consulate on 2/20/2007 and that it was a "rush" date
I didn't have much time but really wanted to attend the interview with her and quickly arranged everything to get there in time. As you can imagine it was so stressful trying to co-ordinate everything and I didn't get to update here.
I managed to secure a date to arrive on 2/18/07 after continuously working with the travel agent which was an episode in itself.
After I arrived we had to leave to Islamabad and we got there on the 19th and stayed with her relatives.
One 2/20/07 at 6:30 we left the house and arrived at the "convention center" only to see long lines as all the different embassy lines were already full and we were there in time at 7.
We cleared through security as they do not allow cell. phones, bags etc.
After getting the bus ticket we waited in another line for the US embassy and the whole thing up to this point took an hour.
we arrived at the consulate at 7:45 and after slight screening again were inside the embassy at 8:00 a.m. which was her appointment time.
The security detail took her appointment letter and we were asked to enter the room with the booths.
at 8:03 she was called at one window and asked a few basic questions about her identity and if she had her passport etc.
at 8:04 she was called at 2nd window to pay the visa issuance fee of $100
at 8:10 she was called at 3rd window for the interview. Here are some of the questions asked:
what is your name? your fiancé's name and date of birth
where does he live?
I see pictures but would like to see some more (she showed more and was asked to identify the people in them, including one picture of my fiancée's godchild where the officer asked if the baby was mine and if I had been married before)
she officer gave her the original birth certificate which was sent with packet 3.5
she inquired about my position and the company I worked for. (I am a Visa and Immigration co-coordinator here at which point the officer was impressed noting that since I work in this field everything would be in order)
while I wasn't physically there with her at the booth, Claudia did mention I was in the room
upon hearing that the officer again felt more comfortable and appeared to smile and asked her to place her hand for fingerprinting
immediately she asked Claudia if she had been there before to which Claudia mentioned yes and my student visa was denied.
the officer asked her about it and if she would pursue her studies and Claudia stated no I'm ready to get married only now..
The officer then remarked that she was satisfied and everything was in order and that she would get her passport in the mail in a week's time.
My fiancé did mention that I would be leaving on the 24th which was roughly 4 days away and inquired as to whether she could accompany me. The officer said "Claudia, you know you aren't supposed to book any flights right?" and Claudia mentioned she had not but it would have been nice to get the visa issuance ASAP and if we can expedite we would kindly request it to which the officer replied "don't worry the packet should be there in 3-4 days"
Claudia didn't want to continue on this topic and simply thanked the officer for her time and got a letter with a list of AMEX contact details and a token number for her passport.
at 8:35 we were waiting for the bus to return to the convention center
We caught the flight to Karachi the same day as it was very cold in Islamabad and I wasn't used to it and was sneezing etc. and didn't want to catch a cold
we did try to get a flight assuming that the passport would be there in 3-4 days however in the end I came back alone on the 24th as I had to resume with my job
on Tuesday 2/28/07 she got a call from AMEX that the passport arrived. She went to pick it up, however there was a typo on my name and the clerk advised it would be best to have it corrected so she sent it back to ISB with a note to correct the name.
on 03/01/07 she got a call from the consulate and the gentleman stated that the typo shouldn't be a problem as it was not her name that was incorrect and himself stated that she can make travel plans on Sunday to leave. I asked her to book the flight for Sat. night out of Jinnah Intl. as she could arrive on Sunday afternoon here in Houston which she did, however the passport didn't arrive until the morning (3/2/07)
LUCKILY EVERYTHING WENT OK AND SHE IS HERE NOW IN THE US
3/4/2007 she arrived at the airport and into my open arms

Some notes/observations:
the officers appeared very polite and there were a lot of people ahead of us already in the room even though we were the first to get on the bus at 7:00 so perhaps they were there even earlier than us. (I.e. leave as early as you can)
there were a lot of other K-1s being interviews. One couple had gotten an appointment date of 3/13/2007, however the US citizen who happened to be in Pakistan at the time emailed the consulate and asked them to bump the date earlier as he was in town and they agreed moving it to our date of 2/20/2007. (perhaps if you are planning on traveling you can try this approach, although I can't vouch it will work in all cases, it would obviously depend on their work load. They did get a new appointment letter too so make sure you have that before making plans)

Another gentleman had to go through A/P and got a separate letter stating that his case required further processing and upon clearance would be sent the passport. The officer told him it would be a month before he got the passport. (We didn't get any updates on this so again we cannot estimate how long it is taking)

I hope that this can serve as a guide to anyone in the future.

Once again thank you all the VJ members, I look forward to getting the AOS out of the way very soon.

TYPES OF SPECIAL CLEARANCES

Several standardised Security Advisory Opinion (SAO) requests formats for special clearances, depending on the applicant's nationality and specific circumstances. Most special procedures are triggered by clear and objective circumstances, such as applicant's nationality, place of birth, residence or CLASS name check results. Consular Officers should attempt to identify applicants (of any nationality) whose cases fall under purview of section 212(a)(3)(A)(i)(II) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and involve fields on the Technology Alert List (TAL)

In general, SAO request type as follows

(1) A VISA DONKEY or VISA BEAR is a request for the Department's security advisory opinion (SAO). Once a Donkey or Bear SAO request is sent, the post must be suspend all action on the case until a reply is received.

(2) A VISA EAGLE is a request for a name check by other Washington agencies. Once an Eagle SAO is request is sent, the post must suspend all action on the case until a reply is received.

(3) A VISA CONDOR is a request for a name check of aliens possessing certain nationalities. Once a Condor SAO request is sent, the post must suspend all action on the case until a reply is received.

(4) A VISA MANTIS is a request for the Department's security advisory opinion on issues of the illegal transfer of technology. Once a Mantis SAO request is sent, the post must suspend all action on the case until a reply is received.

(5) A VISA MERLIN is a request for a Department's security advisory opinion on refugees. A Merlin 92 is a request for the Department's security advisory opinion on following -to-join assyles(Visas-92). Once a Merlin or Merlin 92 SAO request is sent, the post must suspend all action on the case until a reply is received.

(6) A VISA HORSE SAO is an arrrival notice for diplomatic visa holders of certain nationalities, and is sent at the time of visa issuance.

(7) A VISA PEGASUS is sent for nationals of the Commonwealth of Independencet States (CIS) from posts within CIS who are subject of DPT-00 hits and are travelling to pre-ministerial, ministerial, pre-summit, summit or White House meetings. Pegasus SAO requests are sent at the time of visa issuance.

(8) A VISAS HAWK is a request sent for name checks on all immigrant visa (IV) applicants over the age of 16 whose petitions are approved at post or by a Department Homeland Security (DHS) office abroad. These name checks are sent directly to the FBI at the National Visa Center (NVC) for processing. The FBI Managment Analyst at NVC will complete the name check through the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Interstate Identification Index (III) database. Officers must send Hawks by traditional cable method, as SAO-IP is not currently configured to handle Hawk request

HOW DO YOU PROCESS NECESSARY CLEARANCE REQUESTS?

a. You must generate clearance requests from within the NIV, IV AND IV/DV systems.

b. You must refuse applications requiring a clearance request 221 (g) pending the completion of the processing.

c. Once you submit an SAO request ( with the exceptions of HORSE and PEGASUS), you must wait for the Department's response prior making a final determination. You should follow up on cases that show as pending for more than 60 days by sending and e-mail to SAO Inquires.

HOW LONG ARE SPECIAL CLEARANCES VALID?

Special clearance validity is defined as the period of time from the date of a clearance response from the Department to the ending date of the validity. During the validity period, you can issue a qualified applicant one or more visas without having to submit another SAO request. Special clearances are valid for the following periods:

BEAR-3 MONTHS

CONDOR-3 MONTHS

DONKEY-3 MONTHS

EAGLE-12 MONTHS

MANTIS-3 MONTHS( or up to 12 months if returning to the same program)

MERLIN-12 MONTHS

HOW CAN YOU EXPEDITE A CLEARANCE REQUEST?

The Department has a limited ability to expedite clearance requests and may not be able to comply with requests to expedite processing. If you need expedited process of a name check or SAO request, you must explain the urgency of the case and provide a tentative itinerary. Urgent cases usually involve medical emergencies, humanitarian concern or United States Government (USG) interest in the traveler's early arrival in the United States.

NOTE: The national visa center (NVC) does not have the ability to expedite clearance requests. You must send any request for expeditious handling by cable to the department as a Visa DONKEY (or Visa BEAR or Visas MANTIS, when appropiate) for consideration. You should state EXPEDITED REQUEST in the subject line for such requests and limit your requests to those situations outlined above.

THE FOLLOWING COUNTRIES CURRENTLY HAVE SPECIAL CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

AFGHANISTAN, ANGOLA, ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN, BELARUS, BOSNIA, BURMA, CENTRAL AFRICAN REBULIC, CHINA, CROATIA, CUBA, GAZA, GEORGIA, HAITI, HERZEGOVINIA, IRAN, IRAQ, ISRAEL, KAZAKHSTAN, KRGYZSTAN, LAOS, LIBERIA, LIBYA, MACEDONIA, MOLDOVA, MONGOLIA, MONTENEGRO, NORTH KOREA, PAKISTAN, RUSSIA, RWANDA, SERBIA, SIERRA LEONE, SLOVENIA, SOMALIA, SUDAN, SYRIA, TAJIKSTAN, TURKMENISTAN, UKRAINE, VIETNAM, WEST BANK, ZIMBABWE

I have few quick questions for everyone who gone through K3 visa. My wife had interview on March 6th (SHE IS APPROVED) but have not recieved her passport yet last time I called US Embassy to get information on her passport, they gave me reason that her computer system crashed and not they will process her visa in 3-5 business days (seems like BS to me).

Anyhow, do my wife need to fill I-94 arrival card once she will enter in USA? Do she need to stand in US citizen/green card line or other area where visitor and so on. Remember at arrival they send annouce to go left for US citizen/green card and right lanes for others category. Please help me out here.

Thanks

HI TAKARAM 2000

Yes your wife needs to fill I-94 actually everybody had to fill 1-94 accept the american citizens who had american passport becoz its shows when u enter the united states and they keep one paper with them and attach the other with your passport and thus they keep the record that all other like who comes on visit visa or any other person accept american passport holders.

Yes your wife needs to fill the I-94 to show the proof that she enter the united states legally. Hope my answer satisfy you.

any answer on the AOS question i asked earlier?

When submitting AOS paper do i have to send the medical form with or will they request it later. Cause i dont have any medical form.
nair1
What to do folks? I mean when we were going through AP/AR we were told the wait is indefinite but now that we are told we are done with the security checks and we have resubmitted the expired documents, we are still not sure when to expect the visa. Some people from the following list were told to wait 7-10 days some were even told to wait just 3-4 more days but most are waiting for over a month (some for much longer). Has anybody gotten any response from the embassy—any feedback at all? What can be done?

Also looking at feel4anisa's post "TYPES OF SPECIAL CLEARANCES", it seems that the longer they take the greater is the danger that the last security might get expired and then one can just keep going in circles.

Hafiz,

I did the CR1 but Laney's husband Naseer (sp) excuse me came over on the K3. I know most persons coming on K3 get a second copy of the medical for this purpose to use stateside. Maybe she will come into the forums in a day or two and give you the best advice or anyone else that has done their AOS after K3. I found this on the forum instructions

If you are a K-1 fiancé(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fiancé(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement (I-693A), not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application.)

Hey Hafiz,
(I think) My husbands medical results were in the brown envelope he left at his POE. I am assuming the airport immigration forwarded the packet to the Denver Immigration office from there. His medical results were only about 6/7 months old at the time of his AOS interview. We knew that he had not had shots at his medical, and his records were non-existent - so we had to pay a couple of hundred dollars at the civil surgeons (thank god for Flex dollars) for 3 shots and the piece of paper (I-693) to include with his AOS paperwork. We had no RFE's and a quick approval (relatively speaking) so must have been correct thing to do -- smile.gif

Good Morning Laney! I knew you would come and be able to help.

so laney do i send the medical form with AOS application. Or will they request it later on. I mean the medical stuff she brought over was forwarded to service center.
takram2000
Thanks, well just a correction green card holder does not need to fill I-94 either. My wife has not gotton her passport yet since her interview on March 6th. she was approved with AR. I am calling everyday to US Embassy to find out whats going on as usual not getting perfect answer.

Reason so far they have given me different time and different day:

1) Computer system crashed
2) Then computer system crashed only for window where she had interview.
3) Computer system up and running after few days (now they will process)
4) They are working on it required one more week.
5) Again required few weeks
6) Required 3 days
7) They are very busy, need suprvisor signature
8) Required one more week
9) because omputer crashed required week.

This seems like BS to me. I hate those who answers phone, I wish I am able to talk to supervisor or authority at Embassysoomeone clever but our local people are rude and useless and acting like the r everything.

Hafiz,

On the day of her interview, the person interviewing her will have a big ol file on your wife that should have the medical records from her interview. All you need is the I-693 with the AOS. Hopefully nothing will be lost and she does not get stuck in FBI Name check! Good luck.

I wrote to Pakistan Embassy inquiring them about my husbands K-3 case reciept and when he should expect Packet 3.

But their response is a bit confusing, they said packet 3.5 will be mailed to his address in ....... along with interview date?

as long as i know, it should be packet 3 and once he submits packet 3 they should be sending him interview date.

are they treating our K-3 like CR/IR?

Sadia!

Sadia you have it backwards on the paperwork.

K3 gets a letter and interview date.

CR1/IR1 gets packet 3.5 and must do their medical and police reports and then submit it to the consulate/embassy and wait on packet 4 which is the interview letter.

I am not sure if this is how actually things are being done, but if they are then may the whole thing needs to be revised. I'm not saying at all that the security of the United States should be compromised but there must be a better way to do it. If you clear one security check and the other one is expiring at or around the same time then you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that there is something terribly wrong with the process.

The I-693 is the vaccination records. I have forgotten what is required... but if you post the question in the AOS forums, you'll probably find someone who knows what the US requires in regards to immunizations.

My husband did not have his shot records, so we just looked up the closest Civil Surgeon and did a walk in appt. It cost us almost $300 for 3 shots, I did not think to "shop around" first.

This is from the Guides above:

but she already did her medical so does she have to do it again. the I693?

hey just wanted to add that u just need 1-693A that is vaccination supplement..m from pakistan.I came on k3 and got the GC last year.. ur wife doesnt need to get the whole medical done. Tell u about my experience i got the medical in pk as per the embassy's instructions for the K3 visa. then i came here and just got my 1-693A(only the vaccination supplement) done by the doc authorized by the USCIS. 1-693A vaccination supplement includes couple of vacciantions, which if ur wife has any record from overseas within the time frame of last one year ,she can get them tranfered to her i-693a. In my case i didnot have any..so i had to cover most of them cz for some of them i was tooo old laughing.gif .the doc gives u 2 copies, one for ur record and one to be mailed to the USCIS alongwith ur application. i didnt mail the 1-693 with the application and luckliy did not get the RFE. but i would advise u to mail it with ur AOS application. its better not to take any risk. i wil try to send u the 1693A form otherwise the authorized docs have it...

hope this helps . smile.gif

Good Luck
jess11
hey Hafiz,

herez the link for I-693a , u can look into this form ..u dont have to take this to the doc..

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/pdf/ti-03/appdx-a_693vacc.pdf

i just got Td, MMR(measles, mumps,rubella), vercella and i am too old for the DT/DTP, polio,Hib,Hepatitis B,Influenza and Penemococal. i think for these vaccinations therez an age limmit.But i guess ur wife will alos just need the ones i got (if shez not pregnant, otherwise the case will be different). For me the most costly shot was of "vercella" it was for $140. Rest of them costed me $130. anyways u can call different designated civil surgeons near ur area and u can go for the cheapest one. here is the link where u can find the USCIS designated sugeons in ur area;
