We are getting settled down now. He has his social security card and green card. We are getting ready to go and try for his drivers license and then he has already got a job offer. We finally found a masjid and halal food store both are some distance away. The boys are crazy about him and life is good. Thanks for asking.

I know.. I called... I finally broke down... Got through in less than 2 minutes but then was put on hold for several minutes... only to be asked "so what are waiting for?" by the lady (didn't catch her name) - umm I think that's why I called I told her prints... and then she said yeah well there's no updates other than prints back in April... well at least I didn't have to hold for 25 minutes to get that answer....<<sigh>>

I am not calling them til next tue or wed- proble not. I figured the calls are 100% fruitless.
since everything is expired no use in looking forward to this stuff. we missed Javeds up comming
birthday togeather. maybe one day they will say its done.

We have a member on ISL thread. That experianced A Random telephone call from the
EMBASSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this person asked me keep them status non gratta.
so I cant say who they are. but, I can give you a little info..
basicly the embassy called- the person on the phone was RUDE. but, never the less its the embassy
so you gotta suck it up. the embassy talk to family members and other relatives outside the home.
they talked to friends and questioned the benif. too. thats what happend in a nut shell.
so we hope they get this stuff over soon and they get the dayum visa.

one more thing....

please cooperate with the embasssy no matter how rude they are. no matter how retarded the questions
seem. give them what they want. be open and honest. I know its hard - in a culture like this we dont
like to talk too much. sometimes we have to in order to prove ourself as worthy and honest.

Can anyone please tell me how long does it take to get a SSN card? The other day i applied for SSN and the lady there said they are going to verify my documents and status and it may take several weeks, however if i dont get card within 60 days then i can contact them. Is this how the SSN thing works?? i am here on k3 visa and have already got the EAD.

When you enter into the country your name has to be put in the SAVE system. It takes a few weeks then you can go and apply for your card. Once they verify all information you usually get the card in the mail within one month to six weeks. Good luck and hope you have it in hand soon.

I dont know anyone who waits for weeks to apply for SSN. It should be done ASAP. I might have old info. But dont worry, they will let you know whenever you go to their office. That is a very responsible department.

I talked to the embassy today and asked how can I go about talking to a CO regarding whats going on with the case. I was told that for that I would have to come to the embassy before 12:30. so I am thinking I might just do that in two weeks!

The best thing is that I live in Islamabad and the embassy is not very far from where I live. Even the the whole taking a bus to the embassy procedure is a pain in the butt!

I suppose. but, really if your case is at DOS - unfortunately you have to keep calling DOS.
they will have first information anyways. seems like your case is out of the hands of the CO.

we decided to give up on all this sh it and just concentrate on each other. Its bingos birthday..

Laney sorry to hear that your still dealing with the headaches. I know it is not so easy we are working on the drivers test here in Alabama and it is messed up the way they do the foreign testing. Good luck and hope you and Nas are enjoying yourselves.

Are you saying that there are different sets of driving test for foreigner in Alabama? It is very weird.

It is messed up here Imran. They only accept applicants at one office for the whole state and they only accept so many. You line up at 6 am and doors open at 8 am. IF you are lucky you can do the written test. If you pass they will not allow you to get a learners permit. You have to take the road test and only so many of those done daily for foreigners as well. And they do not do these tests until the very end of the day so you must sit all day. If you are not lucky you must come back until you have a spot to do these tests.

We are going back next week and trying to get his written and praying inshallah he passes and that they will allow him his road test on same day.

but, dayum its closed at 4 30pm. then perhaps when you finally talk to a CO
he tells you. Sorry sir- your on AP/AR nothing you can do..

either way. Whinner! you cant get no where while you are under security checks!

so make 1001 calls to the DOS and keep your sanity. what little bit you have.

Didn’t you make the copies of the documents you submitted at NVC? It is recommended that immigration visa applicant have to have (Notarized I-864, other financial documents submitted at NVC along with I-864 form)
It is also mentioned in that interview letter to bring Immigration Visa fee ($380), which was already submitted by you guys at NVC, so ignore that point.
