Hello im very new here and didn't even cruise around too see if this is here because im am very busy at work and am hoping the Masters at VJ can help me...

I have a friend who came too the United States with his family when he was very young i think about 1 or 2 years old and his parents never applited for A SS number for him and his parents never applied either. His parents then had a daughter while in the country and he told me the only thing he can wait too do is wait until his siter is 21 years old and sponsor his entire family.. Is there anything he can do to get a SS?

Thank you

Not enough info to base an educated answer.

Did they enter the country legally or without inspection?

Im not really sure I know his entire family has passports from their native country, if this helps he currently lives in New York and is over 18 years old

If they are not Legal Permanent Residents, they cannot get a SS number. If they came into the country with tourist visas that means they've expired and they are not illegal immigrants and yes, they would have to wait for his sister to petition them. If she petitions him, it will take a very long time since siblings are not a priority on the list.

thank you very much and i was just wondering if anyone knows if there is a way he could get a license with no SSN in New York

The New York DMV web site lists the documents required to obtain a presumably Drivers License.

It would be reasonable to assume that they are out of status. If the Sister does sposnor them they will need to return home to attend a Consulate interview, at that point a 10 year ban would kick in, so if they want to go that route the Parents at least should leave before she is 11.

SSN required unless can prove that are not eligible, as well as Passport with valid I-94, or EAD, or Green Card, and some other proof of NY state residency.

You must show a Social Security Card. If you are not eligible for a Social Security Card, you must provide a letter or form SSA-L676 from the US Social Security Administration (SSA) that states that you are not eligible. The SSA Letter or form must have been issued no more than 30 days before the date of your application. You must also show the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) documents that the SSA used to determine that you are not eligible for a Social Security Card. The USCIS was formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS). MORE: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/idlicense.htm
