Hello, I went to the SSA today to apply for an SSN. The woman there said my immigration and employment authorisation status couldn't be verified so she had to submit a manual verification which I was told (and have a letter indicating) that it could take up to 4 weeks. If I don't hear anything in 5 weeks she told me to come back to the office so they could investigate. She took photocopies of my EAD, passport, K3 and I-94 to submit with the verification request.

I entered on a K3 at the end of March, I-94 expires March 2009. I received my EAD on July 7th. EAD Card production was ordered July 3rd and the validity date on the EAD is June 28, 2007 to June 28, 2008.

Could my information not be verified because my EAD is pretty new? The only things I've read here about SAVE is in regards to K1s and waiting a few weeks after entry before getting an SSN. Couldn't find anything on K3s in my situation.

Yes it takes a few weeks for USCIS to update your status on the SAVE system.

That's what I thought. Thanks! Guess I'll just wait the 4-5 weeks and hope that the manual verification is done somewhat quickly...

The woman at the office said it's usually 10 days for USCIS to update information into SAVE (or however it is they do it) but I thought that was pretty ambitious considering everything with USCIS is at a snail's pace! tongue.gif
I Quit
The ten days is for people just arriving in the country, since part of the I-94 they keep when you enter the country gets sent off to a central location to be entered into the system. With EAD and I-551 cards, it should already been in the system by the time you receive the card, since the office that issues the card enters the info.

When an alien requests an SSN or replacement/corrected SSN card, SSA will verify his or her documents and current status with the appropriate Bureau of the Department of Homeland Security. If the initial verification is not available through the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system, SSA may need to send Form G-845 for manual verification.

For applications submitted after 01/06/2007 SSA offices can submit an additional electronic verification request, that in most cases eliminates the need for a Form G-845 to be sent. However, the response to the additional electronic verification request can be to send copies of the immigration document(s) under cover of Form G-845.

If your status does not verify through the initial SAVE request be sure that the secondary request has been made and return to the SSA office no more than once a week to see if the SSA office has received a response from the secondary verification request. If the G-845 is sent wait two weeks and start checking once a week for a response. Be sure to take your document whenever going into the SSA office.

Thanks for the info!

She took photocopies of my EAD, K3 and I-94 and passport biographical page. She checked the system twice before doing this so I think she did submit an additional electronic request before deciding to file Form G-845.

Oh not sure if this is relevant or not but my EAD was issued by Missouri. I had sent my EAD application along with my AOS and when my EAD was approved, it came from Missouri as well, not a district office.

I have the letter from the SSA office (stating that they are verifiing my information) and the woman there told me to keep it for reference if/when I return to the office. I'm not in a huge hurry to get my SSN at this point so I'll wait a few weeks to see what's up.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated!

Huh.

I got a letter today from the local SSA office saying that I'll be getting my SSN in 2 weeks... It was dated yesterday and I had gone into the office on Monday. Maybe they re-ran my A# & EAD # before mailing off the manual verification and saw that I was now in the system?

I sure hope so! Guess I will just wait and see.
