I think we should be allowed to maybe close our own posts, for example: polls...

Take for example my "choose my tiara" poll... well, I've already chosen now, so I'd like the voting to end cuz it's a moote point

Take for another example, another member's poll on what she should eat for lunch.. Presumably, it being 10:45pm now, she's already had lunch, so voting is pointless..

Honestly, I have not seen one website that permits members the option/control before and it's unlikely that it will start now...

I like this idea as well as applying this same "expiration date" to threads that are old, especially when the OP isn't even on VJ anymore.

Expiration date i agree, deciding on someone elses thread, post, or poll to close i dont agree, maybe she was looking for dinner ideas as well.

Not true. Lots of forum software lets a poll creator put an expiration date on voting. I don't know if it's a possibility with the software that VJ uses.

I dunno, i think allowing members have access to close there posts could cause problems.
remember, sometimes VJ can be equivilant to a daycare

Yeah, I can imagine a lot of 'I'm going to get the last word in and then close the thread so nobody else can respond!' type scenarios.... but with a poll, I can see that it might be handy to be able to set a time limit on it BEFORE you post it... although not really 'necessary', as such!

Or the mods. It really isn't a bother if you PM us, we don't mind.

I tried to get my own thread deleted yesterday after i started a new topic in the Off topic section not knowing the same thread had been started about 3 months ago. So i pm'd Yodrak and he made it invisible for me. So, guys closing a thread is only a PM away. Although i did send out a s.o.s to captain ewok himself but i guess he musta been busy in the forbidden forest or something.

I agree, that if the member that started the old thread is no longer around on VJ then i think the thread should be closed.

A lot of boards have an option to set a closing date on polls... it doesn't affect the thread (you can post to that whenever) but you can't vote in the poll after a certain date. That way if you do a poll on 'where should I go on my vacation?' people won't still be voting on it three years after you get back! I don't know if it's possible with this software but if it was it would be great (and it's not the same as closing whole threads...)
