Howdy, my wife and I will be in the Victoria/vancouver region Aug 19 - 23 then off to Kamloops for my sisters wedding Aug 25. I resided in Victoria for 9 yrs so thats covered, but I rarely went to Vancouver!! We want to do the touristy things in the VAn area, so suggestions on what to do/see would be superb and a good area to stay at a hotel. Preferabbly close to a metro if possible, ansd hey, if there's a Timmies across the street, would be perfect, lol Thanks, Scott

I always recommend staying at the Century Plaza Hotel on the corner of Burrard and Nelson. It's off the Robson strip so it's not as crowded, but close enough where you can tourist - it's also close to the Burrard Street Skytrain station. Plus, it's only a few blocks away from the Timmy's on Alberni and Thurlow.

Tourist sites... Stanley Park, the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain, Granville Island (yum microbrewery) and English Bay, to name a few.
If you're a play person, we also have Bard on the Beach in Vanier Park at this time of year.

I was just going to suggest the Century Plaza as well! It's pretty close to all the shops on Robson.

The hotel staff are awesome and rooms are reasonably priced. What I liked about my room as that it was a suite with a kitchen.
Not sure if you are a smoker or not but the Century Plaza has smoking rooms whereas a lot of other hotels are non-smoking only.

There were some recommendations in my old thread too:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...c=55221&hl=We really didn't do a lot of sightseeing and stayed pretty close to the hotel with the exception of taking cabs to various restaurants.

If you like the outdoors and hiking,
Lynn Valley Park is an absolutely beautiful place to visit; and Granville Island is great for unique pieces of artisan work.
I love BC. Wish I was going. Have a great trip!

Some of my favourite Vancouver stops are: Stanley Park, Vancouver Acquarium, Capilano Suspension bridge, Grousse Mountain (go on a clear day!), Granville Island, and this really cool toy shop on Robson. I can't remember what its called, but it is so much fun! If its still there, you can't miss it, they'll have all kinds of little mechanical toys wandering around inside and outside the store on the pavement. Its hillarious!
I've stayed in a couple different hotels downtown (I was usually in Vancouver for work) and downtown can get quite pricey for rooms. I guess where you stay will depend on your budget.

As for the hotel part, I found hotwire.com to be pretty good with prices/value. I just finished booking my hotel there for my medical on Julyn 25th, and I ended up with a very nice high rise hotel with tons of extras for $115. It is a bit of a different site though, because you basically just type in where abouts you want to stay, but you don't learn the name of the hotel until after you have booked it. (I was pleasantly surprised when I found out which hotel mine was.)
And as for Tim Horton's I just read that they will all be closed down for mandatory renovations for the entire month of August. Guess you will have to settle for Charbucks.
....kidding.

I have used www.hotwire.com for everything from airline tickets, to car rentals, to hotels and have always been pleased with the results. Those to whom I have recommended have had good success also. If you get out to Richmond, we have Tim's in about 5 places and there is one at the airport also.
Happy Holidays
