yes.gif And I mean old!! Iven been hunting for recordings of these two Algerian singers from old times -Slimane Azem and Cheikh Norredine -this is the cutest I've heard, for anyone who might be interested-there doesnt seem to be any modern cd releases helas and I ve searched and searched everywhere -even when I was in the bled! I estimate it to have been made when Algeria was still a colony of France

You click on this link and give it a couple of seconds. Hope it works smile.gif

deemabrouk

deemabrouk
I left my country, I left my house
My life, my sad life, drags without reason.
I left my sun, I left my blue sea -
Their memories reawaken in me, well after my good-bye.
Sun, sun of my lost country,
White cities which I loved, girls that I used to know…
I left a friend, I still see her eyes,
Her eyes rainy wet, with the rain of good-bye
I see her smile again, so close to my face
As it illumined the evenings of my village.
But on board the boat, which took me away from the quay
A chain in the water beat the water like mad
While I looked intently at her blue eyes which plumbed the sea
Drowned in the flood of regret…

beautiful beautiful song!

Thank you so much Henia for those links!! I really wish I could find a cd of these two old guys together -but as I said, I dont even know if such a thing exists -they have done other simple duets together -On a couple of them -its like they start to talk before singing -and the Norredine guy actually seems to stutter when he is speaking! But when he starts to sing, it isnt there .

As you are going back to Algeria soon, if you ever ever happen to come across them in a cd shop could you pm me the name of the cd and i can try to look for it again myself when i go back next year to visit the family smile.gif

Forgot to type also, I love those patriotic Algerian songs also -ive actually got those on a couple of cd's here. The one especially by Slimane Azem -when ive really sat and listened to the words, id get actual tears in my eyes too -even though i wasnt born in Algeria,, funny how one's husband's country seems to "grow" on you smile.gif

thanks henia...i have 2 books about Algeria on amazon and barnes and noble. One is called ALGERIAN SUNS the other is PICTORIAL HISTORY OF COLONIAL ALGERIA. You can actually find both books all over like in all the online stores by typing in either name. They have international distribution so they are all over. After I pay all the distributors I make like 2 dollars a book.hhahahhaha I am glad you found the lulu site... I have a lot of cool songs on youtube... I think its funny you found my kwoolr site
