My hubby got a police certificate from the Calgary Police Service that states "A search based on the above names and birthdate has not disclosed a record of criminal convictions in Canada's National Repository for criminal records."

But, there is also this stamped note in red at the top of the page...

"Please Note: The CPS Security Clearance Unit recommends a local police check be conducted where this applicant previously resided."

Has anyone seen this on their certificate? Do you think this certificate is sufficient since it is a search in the 'National Repository' or do I need him to get another local one for his previous city?

Hi,
I had my police certificate also done in Calgary last September. Mine said exactly the same thing as yours but didn't have the stamped note in red. I'm not sure what that is about at all. I would go back downtown in Calgary to the main police station and take the letter with you and ask them about it. I don't undertand about the previously resided thing as they check Canada wide. Unless of course you lived perhaps in some other country before Canada?

I don't understand the previously resided either. He's only lived in Canada and if it's Canada wide it just doesn't make sense to me that a National search wasn't enough. I think (since I'm hoping the DS230 packet will get here this week) that I'm just going to take my chances and send it in as is.

At least if we get an RFE for a local one, he can run and get one and then just Global Express it to NVC. Luckily, since he's a paramedic and worked in the last city he was in, he knows the RCMP guys and whenever he's needed a police certificate (for other jobs) he's gotten it immediately.

We'll see! Thanks Susan.

Hi,

My Husband's was sent to us on June 12th, so just 3 weeks or so ago. There is no red stamp on it, the first paragraph reads:

"A search based on the above name(s) and birthdate has not disclosed a record of criminal convictions in Canada's National Repository etc etc.

It then goes on to say " Calgary Police Service local indices and the Alberta Court indices have not disclosed other relevant information".

Does yours have that? I don't know if it makes a difference but while he is Australian, he has only resided in Calgary, for Canada residency.

I got a Calgary City Police certificate back Last year (2006).. I think I was $40. (+) dollars it took them forever to get it back to me .( 6 weeks or more). but it finally arrived.. Then the visa Interview took so long to get that I really wanted the security check to be at Lest not more than 6 months old, so I went to the New RCMP Building on approx 75Th ave & 8st NE Calgary, ( where I should have gone in the first place)

No Cost, just tell them it's is for a Visa, I think I had it in 3 Mins.. Nice people etc..

So I presented that one at the interview ( actual I presented both) and the girl who asked for the security check Doc's looked at the City of Calgary one then looked at the RCMP one and gave me back the Calgary city one..

So Use the RCMP...( in Calgary)

I, too, had mine done through the RCMP offices in NorthEast Calgary, up by the airport past Deerfoot Mall.

It was free and I got it within 5 minutes...

Scott.
