I am new to this site and I am so glad I found it. It appears to contain a wealth of information. I have a question that may have already been asked before but I was unable to find such a question during my search on this site. Here goes....
My current fiance and I have met via the internet in October 2006 but have never met in person physcially. We do however, maintain daily contact via webcam, Yahoo IM'ing, emails, telephone and text messaging. He proposed via webcam, I accepted, and he Fed-x my engagement ring...*lol* We would like to be married in Nigeria in December 2007, and then file for a K-3 Visa for him to join me here in the U.S. in 2008.
Since this will be our first time ever meeting face-to-face, and I have to have a Visa to travel to Nigeria to marry abroad, what is the best Visa for me to apply for? If I understand it correctly, in order to apply for a Fiance Visa you have to show proof of having met at least once in the past two years? Should I apply for Tourist Visa in order to see him for the first time, although we plan to marry during our first face-to-face visit? We both realize that I will come back home after we marry in December, but I plan to apply for his Spoual Visa upon my return.

From what you describe, you will need a spousal visa.
A K1 (fiance visa) is for those who want to marry in the US, and also, you must meet in person in the last two years. So if you decide you do indeed want to marry in the US, then meet in person first, and send in the petition.

CR-1 is used when couple marries in foreign country
K-3 allows couple that filed for CR-1 to travel to USA before CR-1 is compleate to either wait for CR-1 visa process to compleate or just adjust status in the USA, but has additional fees involved in it.

I take it your question is about the visa you (the USC) will apply for to visit and marry your fiance in Nigeria. That's not what we deal with here. We deal with the process of bringing foreign fiance(e)s spouses and family members to the USA. For information on visas to visit Nigeria, go here.

Be aware. Somebody going through the visa process to bring a fiance or spouse from Nigeria posted this morning something to the effect of....There are some countries from which it is easy to obtain a fiance or spouse visa and some from which it is extremely difficult. Then there is Nigeria. Be assured there is a reason for this.
I advise you to become very familiar with the process and Nigeria issues before your trip.

You will probably need a "visitor visa" to enter the country of Nigeria. I recently visitied my Fiance, I had to have a entry visa. I am sure you will find the information you are required to complete once you marry your fiance.
You to have a visa to be allowed into Nigeria. In 2004 when my wife came to Nigeria she was not allowed into the country she had to be returned back to the US on the next available flight I had to send her an invitation letter to come get a tourist visa in 2005...So that is not really a problem let your fiancee send you an invitation letter with copy of her passport just the bio-date page and some other financial documents stating that your fiancee will be responsible for you visit and you will also submit a financial statement from your bank showing that you can support your stay likewise in Nigeria and send the correct visa fee..................I believe this piece of information will be helpful to you..

You should slow down a little and go to Nigeria. Get to know him one to one. You have to understand his culture and background and see how that will merge with yours in America. If after you finally meet, you both still want to marry, then choose your options. Understand that the time frame for processing K-1 or K-3 visa's are slightly different with the K-1 usually being the faster option.
The important thing is to understand that a relationship on the internet, even with web cam's is not the same as living with someone every day. You are hoping to have a long loving relationship here. Do the steps right first.

Well it sounds like you both plan to marry so you are definately looking at a spousal visa, K-3,CR-1 or DCF if possible. I would first have your SO find out the exact procedure for getting there in Nigeria. As there are countries which do not allow or make it very difficult for foreigners to marry nationals there. And so I would definately look into, if you have not already the correct documents you will need to bring with you and all the process timeframe (if you are able to get married in the time you will be in Nigeria).
There is also, actually a forum for African countries where you will find other couples from Nigeria who will have more info and support to share. Of course, you are welcome in MENA and I hope you see your posts often. Good Luck with your marriage, petition and salut to a new happy life together!!!!

I agree . The net is a controlled environment and you find out a lot of things about the person when you are with them for a period of time over there My advice is to carefuly document your relationship from now on and go there and then file A k1. the k3 is a lengthy drawn out process and very very very very hard to do compared to the fast k1. You need to have tons of proof showing the building of your relationship. I say go slow . take it from me . I would have much preferred a k1 than this monstrous diffilcult wait for the k3

Great advice.. its 2 months later and I still do not have my marriage certiicates back from Tunisia. ITs supposed to be easy to get married but it is not easy if you can never get your paperwork straight and tunisia is one of the easiet. I saw people from Cote D Ivoire getting married there and it took them over a year to get all the paper work they needed to get married and he ws marrying an AMERICAN . I am not sure why its so hard but as you well know. you are one of the only Americans i have ever seen successfully marry in Algeria.... and I am sure you have your stories to tell > I just wish i was in algeria right now. I am very jealous but there is no way for me to get a co sponsor thats for sure. Heck.. I am doing my very best to hang in there with this hellish wait

Please find out exactly what you need to enter his country and what it will take to get married. I met my husband for the first time when I went in July after meeting him online in March. You know if you are ready to marry and trust what your gut tells you and nothing else. Once you marry over there you will file the I-129 and the I130. Make sure that before you go you have the forms printed out that he will need to sign.
Start keeping records of emails, chats, phone records, mail or cards that you send each other. Take lots of pictures when you are there and make sure it is from different days and if you sight see have someone take pics of you together.
Be prepared for a long process and realize that it is hard but well worth the wait. My husband entered into the USA on a CR1 and has been here 2 weeks and 2 days and got his SS card yesterday. in 16 day will be our 1 yr annivarsary.
God speed on your journey.

I just think that *perhaps* if this person wants advice on what type of visa to get in order to be able to enter Nigeria......he/she should visit that particular board to get the best advice. Also they are more familiar with red flag issues to look for in their country.
