Hello all,
I am just curious how many here have gone to, or are planning to go to the interview with their fiance'? I have noticed that a few have. Is this required? I would like to go with my fiance' but she wants to give her employer two weeks notice and can not give that until she has her visa. am going over to bring her home and we are going to visit with her family before we leave for the US. I have been to visit her twice this year and do not have the vacation time to go to the interview and then stay for two weeks and then visit her family for a week.
Thank you for any help,
Douglas
Hello Douglas,
I went to the interview with my fiancee in Thailand. In Thailand, you are allowed to attend this interview as a couple. The CO conducted my fiancee's interview was an extremely good guy, but he told me directly that anything I might say had no impact on his decision making process. Essentially, the USCIS does all the background work on the petitioner, and then the Consulate has the responsibility of interviewing the beneficiary. So, I was there primarily for 'support'. As it turns out, we were missing one form at the interview, so it turned out to be a great benefit that I was there because the I was able to talk to the CO directly and he took the time to fully explain what I needed to do to get that form. As it turns out, it was no big deal to get the form. However, I know it would have been stressful on both my fiancee and myself if I hadn't been there, and my fiancee had to tell me about this on the phone at a later time...
In the end its your choice, do what you think is best for your situation. For us, it was best that I was there simply because I was able to collect this information from the CO and save some stress for myself and my fiancee. If you're 100% sure that you have all the forms and that your fiancee is ready for the interview, then she will do fine. The interview in Bangkok itself is not at all difficult...takes about 5 minutes..
