My hubby went down to the Garda station today to request a police cert, and was told he had to phone the Gards in Thurles for this. And was told that the embassy has to request it.

Anybody know the actual procedure here?

Thanks

Here's how I did it:

I went into my local Garda Station, Henry Street in Limerick and asked the lady behind the counter about obtaining a Police Cert for the U.S. Embassy. She gave me the form and told me to fill it out in BLACK pen only. She said the Embassy were really strict about that. I filled it out and she took the form back and said it would take about 1 month and would be posted to address I gave. Bring your passport, cos I think you need to fill in your passport number. I can't remember exactly what was asked. And your name MUST be exactly as it is on your passport.

It's your local Garda Station that should help you with this, and the Embassy will not request it, you have to get it yourself. Go back in and explain why it's needed and that it HAS to be you who requests this cert, not the Embassy. You probably got some-one who hasn't a clue.

Good Luck with the feckers! wink.gif

My man had an extremely hard time obtaining his police cert. It wasn't until I called from the states and explianed about the K-1 that they finally got moving.

I kept in contact with one woman there and she has been amazing-she even called Gavin Saunday to tell him what was on it and that it was being mailed.

Keep on them-She wanted

a copy of his passport bio page
a copy of his birth cert
a note explaining what he needed it for(K-1) US embassy
a list of all previous addresses

good luck-they can be real wankers if they want to be wink.gif

At first i went ot mills street garda station, or thought they sent me to another place and the place sent me back to garda mills street station...
I had to give the m a copy of my passport, birth certificate copy and also they gave me a paper to fill... with all my previous addresses...
3 weeks after filling i got my police certificate by the mail...
Good luck

Yup, it should be your hubby requesting the Police Cert not the Embassy and he should get it from the local Garda Station and from someone that knows what they are doing. If they insist on Thurles and the Embassy requesting it, then print and bring this to them:

Mine was pretty easy to get. I went to my local Garda Station and filled out the form, showed my passport and submitted the form with a copy of my passport bio page, a copy of my birth cert, a copy of the page from the US Embassy stating that a Police Cert is required, my current address and a list of all my previous addresses (where I lived for over 6 months) in Ireland and got the cert in the post about 2/3 weeks later. I am sure the Embassy will be happy to note that I'm not a criminal mastermind....
