Well since the first set of cards that I sent back to them, I never received anything else.

I sent back the first set with all the info ( ROE, Visa, etc). I was about to call them back this week to verify why i didnt get any news or money. But I just received a phone call from them, saying that they have been trying to send me more cards but they got returned to them every time. I confirmed with the lady on the phone that my address didnt change, and there is that thing about the way they write the address. Like if the address is 123 Main street apt 345, they will write it 345-123 main street. The thing is they wrote my address like this for the first enveloppes I received so I dont see why it would be a problem.

So anyways, its just that I was watching a movie, not expecting the phone call, and I totally forgot to ask any other questions. I just confirmed the address, she said she would send them back and that's it.

Now I am wondering, could it be because the EI is in my maiden name and the name in the mail box is my married name? That USPS would pull the same ###### that they do with USCIS stuff???

I wonder if I should call Service canada back and have them adding my Married name.

Any suggestion? helpsmilie.gif

WE had the same issue happen with ours. Sometimes they catch it at USPS, sometimes they don't. Our cards often came with a handwritten (by the post master i presume) number on them- putting the address first then the apt #. You did the right thing changing the address. We also put my maiden name inside the mail box- that way it would help the post man out. I didn't bother to change my name for EI.
Mephys
well I didnt change the address with Service Canada because they wrote it the same way the first time and I received the enveloppes.

Should I ask them to put the address first instead of the apt number???

I thought with the zip code and everything that it would reach , specially since it did the first time..... unsure.gif
Emancipation
Okee.. I misunderstood smile.gif Yep I'd call them back and have the address changed - they will do it for you!.. explain that the USPS format is Street # then Apt #.. they will correct it for you no problems. It's like the date thing in Canada that they do dd/mm/yyyy but here in the US they do mm/dd/yyyy.. smile.gif
Mephys
alright thanks a lot !
Mephys
well my husband met the USPS guy at lunch time and he confirmed to him that if the mail was in my maiden name and doesnt match the name in the mail box that they would return it to the sender because it could be the previous resident.

So he added my maiden name as well in it.

tongue.gif sounds like there's 2 issues here- the maiden name stuff as well as the address issue!! smile.gif Isn't life in the US grand? smile.gif It will all work out!
misa
Yeah, the address issue. Get them to change it so that it's address first then apartment number.
Mephys
yup Im waiting for them to call me back smile.gif I left the message

How long did it take you to received any answer or money?

I tried to check my status online but it asks for the province and neither the province or the state worked. Any idea?
misa
HA! I haven't received any money because I'm a K3 and not work authorised upon entry. Still waiting for my EAD. My mailman did actually deliver my cards anyway because he know that it was for me. I've moved since then and need to mail them my new address (stressing that the apartment number should not come first).

You have to put ON for the province for Ontario......no matter what province you are from...it's something to do with the out of country EI office being in Ontario.
I had a problem also with the address thing..... I phoned them and they corrected it. Also, I sent them a copy of my marriage certificate when I sent my ROE and all my paperwork and put a note on it asking them to put everything in my married name. Well a few weeks went by and everything was still in my maiden name so I called them again, told the lady I had sent a copy of my marriage cert and asked if my name could be changed. She changed it right then and there while we were on the phone. I find it makes it easier when I take my checks to the bank too having them in my married name.
Mephys
thanks for the tip!! Worked with ON smile.gif

Thats silly cause it says if I dont send them back the cards within 3 weeks from June 1st ( which is the day after the 2 weeks card I never received) that I might lose my benefits......

But she said on the phone she would just try to send me back the cards so Ill see. It also says in there that they received new information and that they should take a look at it and take a decision by July 4th. Dunno if they are talking about my ROE and stuff that I sent back 1 month ago, but hey its about time they open the enveloppe!

Oh well Ill wait and see, I guess....

I actually called the plain jane 1800# to get my address changed - and they did it for me no problems!
1 800 206-7218

When they call back, ask if you just verbally submit your cards to them via the phone.. I know someone on Canada Forum has done that before.. it's worth a shot!!

I think they are very overworked there right now. Squeeky wheel get the grease though.. so keep on 'em.. smile.gif It took me 3 months to get my $$ but I did just about everything wrong possible smile.gif
misa
Mephys, what is the woman's name you're dealing with? If it's Maureen, she's awesome. Chitchat with her a little about missing Canada. She's very nice and likes to chat. smile.gif

ETA, she'll be on vacation the first 2 weeks of July. I remember her telling me that.
Mephys
I dont know who called me yesterday.....another part of my communication problems when it comes to speak english on the phone... unsure.gif

1- I hate talking on the phone with people I dont know ( always had some sort of fear, Im shy on the phone I dont know why)
2- Its even worse in english because when I dont get something and I ask the person to repeat, and usually they repeat as fast as the first time and i still dont get it so I get discouraged and I dont have the courage to ask again...sad.gif

headbonk.gif

I feel so silly sometimes.

the number I called was this one 1-877-486-1650 and I also have this once 1-800-808-6352

I will try yours Emancipation thanks

/sigh
/kick herself in the butt to try to call again

Memphy's just to be clear.. You called the right number for Out of Country claims office.. smile.gif But you can call the regular EI line to just update your address smile.gif And you can probably speak to someone in French on that line smile.gif But aren't ALL gov workers required to speak in both french & englisH?

And I COMPLETELY understand your fear of speaking wtih people you don't know. I have that issue as well.. ESP when it's gov workers smile.gif
Mephys
So the lady called me back from the message I left yesterday......in french good.gif

Address is changed to USPS standard
Married name is added
And I asked to complete the cards by phone and she did from May 20 to July 14 which is the day my K-1 expires. She told me just top advise them when I get work authorization after that

Thanks a bunch girls! luv.gif

Only thing I ask about how the decision is made and what about the money and stuff and she started with detailed information on number of weeks and she said 39 , then 13, then 25 and she got me confused there......Ill see what happens..... Of course its my first time claiming EI and I dont know nothing about how it works...

lol

I think Federal employees are supposed to be bilingual but I'm not sure.

Mephys, I'm glad that you got that worked out!

Excellent all together!!!!! They told me 4 weeks to make a decision.. it ended up being 5 weeks after I gave them the SSN information, but this was 1 1/2 months after I initially applied - Did you get registered for direct deposit or are you getting checks?
Mephys
direct deposit, I still have my canadian account for my student loan.
