I've never been married before, but my mom suggested I should have a certificate from my country's authorities that certifies I am single, in order to get married on my K-1 visa. Do I?
I don't think I do, because I have found nothing online that says I do, but my mom is a champion at instilling doubt in my mind =P

We didn't need any specific paper to obtain our wedding license. You only need to provide documents if you have been married and divorced or widowed before.

All we needed to obtain our marriage license was our SSN # (you can get a letter saying why you don't have one), a picture ID and money to pay the register of deeds.

Contact the register of deeds in the state where you will get married and ask them what documents you need to bring.

We didn't need anything either. We were asked if we had ever been married before - which we hadn't - and that was it.

Plus, you're coming in on a fiance visa (that looks good).

Shub,

That may depend on the laws of the jurisdiction in which you plan to get married. My wife's country has such a requirement of a foreigner for the foreigner to marry a citizen there.
