Hey!

What have you all done once you got your packet 3 and it told you to print out your forms, fill them in, blah blah, then send them off straight away......but....... you can't, as you have to send the checklist with it and on the checklist, it tells you to only send it in with your forms if you have certain documents in your possesion.
I have the forms ready to go and everything else, but i am still waiting on the police record!

Do you have to wait for it before you can send in your packet?

How long ago did you apply for the police record. You will have to wait for your interview so if you applied say 25 days ago so have at most 15 days for the record to come send off the check list. You should have a very good chance of having the police record back before your interview date. Any longer than that and there is a risk of not having on the day.

We got packet 3 about 3 weeks after getting the paper stating his police cert was sent on or what have you. We went ahead and sent the checklist in. We got his police cert early this week and have his interview on July 3rd. So figure out how much longer you have till the 40 day mark and calculate from there.

I've been meaning to ask about the police certificate, just so I know we got the right thing. Our's just says "there is no information held about you on our computers blah blah blah" and at the bottom it says "this doesn't constitute a certificate of good character" or something like that.

Is this what everybody elses says, more or less? Thanks!

there's a much longer police-cert-focused thread a little way down in the forum, you might want to check it out for a lot of police cert talk.

but on your question: one thing, the 40 day count starts from the point at which (in most cases) you receive a receipt that says "we got your request." For us, that receipt came several weeks, perhaps 4, from when Tim went to apply for the cert. THEN it took 39-41 days (mail waiting after a long weekend away, dunno for sure) from that receipt date. So factor that it.

that said, i think there's a lot of agreement that, so long as you've ordered it and there's a good shot you'll have it in time, go ahead and send in that checklist. from what people have said here, the worst case scenario is that you get to the interview without the police cert and you get approved pending the cert arriving at the embassy. that would be annoying, but just weigh that in with your calculations.

we sent ours back without having the cert in hand. now we have it in hand, and we're still waiting on the interview date, so no harm. others have cut it closer. others yet have been "approved pending." definitely checkout that longer link as well.

p.s. jennymc - yes, i think that's it. if there's nothing on the record, the letter sounds like the computer just said nothing is there, rather than being a citizenship award smile.gif i think there's a scan of a police cert in the galleries. i haven't seen Tim's in person yet, but that sounds the same.

hope that's slightly helpful, if jumbled, information.

So long as it has the blue line accross the top and bottem of the page yet thats what took 40 days to get to you. I was the same as you as it is also stated from your county but does qualify for your whole life.
