Hey,

Are there any other Brits on Long Island?

If so, lets make a list of where we are, perhaps there are others nearby?

Hi-
I am Rose from Merrick, LI- originally from Brooklyn. Moved to Coram at 18 yrs old to go to Stonybrook U.
Been here now for almost 20 years and although we get rooked on property taxes-it's a good place to live
My Scottish lad will be joining me shortly( I hope !) and I feel it would be great for him to know some people from back home...

How do you like Coram?
Nice that you're so close Port Jeff ! I love it there !!! Love to go to Tara's for $3.00 burgers & beer-have you gone yet??

Hey Rose,

I love Long Island! Yes having Port Jeff close by is a plus, especially for that British food store where I can stock up on Galaxy chocolate, salad cream and branston pickle!! I've been told there is a fish'n' chips shop too but I am yet to find it. I will have to find Tara's too, never been there. Thats funny that you lived in Coram, I like it here but it's not my favourite place on the island, we live in lovely condo complex though. I used to live in Oyster Bay and Sayville, they are great towns. What I love the most about living out here is the summertime, the beaches, driving out east to the wineries and catching the ferry to fire island make up for the extortionate property taxes!

Hi Louise,

Yes, I agree about of the good things that make up for the taxes...Coram wasn't my favorite place either. I was there for about 18 months, and began my migration westward-ended up in Merrick-which is OK-I simply stay here for the school system for my little guy. Like I say, that taxes here are a joke...I could go on for hours about those ridculous taxes, but I see you can relate !

Ahhh ! I am so happy to hear that I can get my husband some branston pickle. It has been a concern of his, as he finds a way to put it on virtually every sandwich he seems to eat. It is actually quite comforting knowing he can get some here...
Whereabout in Port J is the shop ??? I haven't been that way in about 2 years !
It is one of the places that I plan on taking Graham when he gets here. He will love it. It sort of reminds me a little of Banchory...

Now that the warmer weather is upon us, do make some time and head over to Tara's. You will be glad you did ! Nothing beats their $3.00 burger and .25 cent pints...

How long are you in the states?? Was your adjustment difficult? I wonder how it'll be for my lad, and sometimes I have to say, I fret about it sometimes...

I arrived here November last year. I have been fine but then again I have spent a lot of time here in the last 7 years. I do miss my family and friends a lot but plan to go home every year for a visit. smile.gif

Hi there!

I live just down the road from you! Well, my family are over at the moment and we went to Port Jeff on Monday - I was so exited to get my British food stuff... It WAS in the Harborside Mall on the left opposite the hot sauces shop... but now its gone!!!! crying.gif

I made up for up by hitting the gap and taking a picture of the red british telephone box around the corner!

Where in the UK is your fiance from?

Hmmm.... this sounds like it is a must-do for me and the hubby.... However, I only know Manhattan. If I come in from CT to Grand Central..... best bet is subway to BK, right?? Like the number 4??
