If Montreal keeps the Passport, does this mean my fiancee' cannot come back to the states with me after the Interview until he gets his Passport/Visa? If so, how long does it typically take to receive?

I don't know about visiting without hte passport if he was approved - may be denied entry due to the usual reasons. On the good side, it will take circa one week to get it back, visa and all.

Mine was approved on Tues. and the envelope was entered at the MTL Post Office yesterday at 9:03 a.m. It's in transit now . Unfortunately no mail delivery in Canada on weekends

1. correct. He can't come with you to the US to stay and get married without the passport and the visa in the passport to activate.
2. it seems from others' experience is that it takes around a week.
