I called the toll free number at USCIS --- and I can't figure out how to get to a live representative. The prompts go on forever. Hate to sound so stupid, but I know the veteran VJ'ers will be able to come to my rescue!!!

Follow the prompts as if you want to change your address.

I always press 1 (for English), 2 (to skip the introduction), 3 (to discuss your case, I think), and 6 (to talk to a rep). This is what I've been doing until I sent the package out today.

Be aware that the 1-800 number is also referred to here as the MIS-information line! The information they give out is consisently wrong. If you have a general question you might be better off asking the folks here in the K1 forum.

There are two diffrent call centers that you might be able to connect to by calling that line. If you follow the prompts above, you will go to the national call center which may or may not be able to tell you much about your case. But after you file and have a case number, you can follow the problems for questions about a request for evidence, You will be asked for your case number and then get connected to the call center at the service center your case is at. They tend to have better information.

The best info you can get when you call this number hand have your reciept # and A#, ask to submit a status inquiry.
I did that last week, was asked to call back later that day which I did and got transfered to an Immigration officer.

Ah gotcha. I wasn't sure if the OP had a general question or not looking at their timeline.
