We got our international satellite dish installed yesterday -- it is HUGE.

HypeTV is up and running. It costs $9.99 a month extra. So far, so good. It is mostly music videos. They had news on last night but we both fell asleep before it came on.

I am hoping that as time goes by and more people order it they will have better programming. Gotta tell you, it is really nice to see the commercials. Mostly for Digicel and Appleton's.....kinda makes me feel warm and giggly inside. It's like you are back in Jamaica but sitting in your own house

that's wassup, we've been considering switiching to sattelite, but right now we have a good combo with our phone, internet and cable all in one. i'd hate to lose the bargain blush.gif

There might be a "Satellite Package" in your deal. Probably with DishTV. I have heard they have a better "Caribbean" station. You should check.

I have a similar deal that includes satellite. It’s a bundle service that includes my internet, phone, DIRECTV, and cell. I have Cingular (cell), BellSouth (internet and phone service), and DIRECTV. I think I am saving money. But since my phone bill is sooooo high (calling hubby too much in JA) I can't really tell. sad.gif

I want to get HypeTV but I am trying to reduce some of my bill first. The first to go is the long distance phone bill. I can't wait for my husband to get here!

We have had HypeTV for about 3 weeks now and Andre and I both like it. It is a LOT of music videos and entertainment type stuff but I think the best part for him has been hearing the patios all the time and hearing the jokes and things from home. We have it in the background a lot and don’t necessarily watch it…just listen. It is kinda pricey but I have seen a definite mood boost from being reconnected to people and things from JA. We will be keeping it, at least for a few months yes.gif

And you are right Mindy…that dish is HUGE! laughing.gif

I see some Filipino shows on our cable from time to time

I share your same sentiment. I live in the Midwest which is very much culturally lacking and zero Caribbean culture. So when I heard about Hypetv, I jumped at the opportunity to get any sought of culture ( I received it over the weekend), but I'm disappointed that all it has is mostly music videos. Like you said Mindly, hopefully it will get better programming as more people subscribe to the channel. I am definitely looking forward to seeing that where maybe they can showcase more variety and even become world Caribbean station. I figure I keep it for a while, but it will be definitely hard to keep the viewers abroad without a more diverse line-up.

I am so with you on those international phone calls. My fiance has the megafone and now he is getting a phone through cable and wireless for unlimited long distance. It works out so much better because they pay $1000JA for the phone card a month and they are able to call us unlimited. We searched and searched until we found something that would lessen the cost and I am still struggling. I had to just make up my mind and say "I'm not calling there long distance anymore" So you should look into something like this

Hubby said the megafone are all done by the time the dealer gets to Ochi, he's heard of a new phone that cost $6000ja for the phone and $750JA for a month of unlimited overseas calls. I told him to look into it asap.
